for the week of October 3, 2016

Homecoming is over, and.. What a week it was!

Let's keep the positive momentum going forward as we're still relishing in our sweet victory over Plano High School Friday night! Our football team has moved to 4-1 for the season!

Other positives from last week included both the staff and the students fully participating in the Dress days. Our level of school spirit and focus to student achievement is at (in my opinion) at all-time high! As a team, let's continue collaborating with each other to solve complex problems and fill academic gaps.

Featured Staff of the Week - Bonnie Banks!

Big image
Bonnie Banks was born in Birmingham, AL in the middle of the Civil Rights movement. Her father was a lawyer and her mother a speech therapist, which explains why she is so thorough!

Bonnie graduated from an alternative high school in Carrollton, which has been a model for other alternative schools in Texas.

Mrs. Banks has been married to her wonderful husband, Bill, for 33 years. She has two children: Ryan and Sarah. Ryan is a fantastic guitarist and Sarah recently completed her doctorate in Psychology. Bonnie has two dogs and would love to have more!

Bonnie worked as a home day care provider and a cafeteria worker before going back to school. She then graduated from the University of North Texas at age 35 and came to work at MHS shortly after that.

Bonnie has taught at MHS for 15 years and thinks it's a great place to be! Bonnie teaches in our FAC (Functional Academics Class) program.

In her "spare" time, Bonnie enjoys being a part of her church, reading, and watching sci-fi and classic movies.

Bonnie played several instruments growing up and continues singing to this day. Bonnie's dream is to go on an Alaskan cruise one day!

Preparing ARDs

Please make sure to preview ARDs 5 days prior to the parent, the student's AP, and Shelly Kramer. If you are providing input to ARDs for another case manager, make sure that your goals and PLAAFP for your subject are provided well in advance of this 5-day window.

Be Present and Engaging

For all classes (centralized programs, resource, inclusion, DSSC...), it is imperative that we are present from bell-to-bell and engaging students the entire time. If you are unable to attend a class for any reason (ARDs included), email the teacher and copy me. These need to be sent well in advance so that teachers can plan for your absence.
