Tracey Print Talk
Where Good Character Grows
Our Tracey Pledge
Tracey cubs strive to be safe, be respectful, be responsible as they leave their P.R.I.N.T on the world because good character looks the same in all languages.
This Week We Spent Our Community Meeting Time With Our Reading Buddies
Family PRINT Challenge
This week was all about the "T" in our PRINT, so the Family PRINT Challenge is all about taking responsibility for your environment.
Challenge: As a family discuss with your child what are some ways that you can take responsibility for the culture and climate in your household or in your family. Have an open discussion about what each member thinks is going well in the house and then discuss some areas for growth. As a parent, it can be hard to hear children point out things that they don't like, but try to listen with an open mind.
For example, when we had these "family meeting" discussions in my house, my children expressed that they did not like that I would become upset and "nag" them about household chores every Friday night. Personally, I grew up with parents who had a strong belief in " I pay the cost to be the boss" philosophy. So, it was hard to take the complaint seriously at first. After some time I suggested we institute a Family Cleaning Day where everyone got their chores done at the same time. Each Saturday morning we would turn up the music and dance our way into a cleaner house. This was a compromise that forced me to do my part of maintaining the home, while not letting my kids escape their obligations.
NO TOYS FROM HOME AT SCHOOL- PARENTS WE NEED YOUR HELP!
The school policy clearly states that students are not allowed to bring toys to school. There are many reasons for this policy including some of the following:
- Distraction from the learning that needs to happen during the school day
- If items are stolen the school cannot be responsible for retrieving these items
- If students do not want to share a toy brought from home, it can result in disruption to the school day and arguments
I have had to talk with several students regarding incidents that occur due to toys being brought to school, and it has become an unnecessary distraction to the vital learning that takes place at school. Starting this Monday, I am asking that all teachers confiscate any toys brought from home and save them to be returned to parents at an agreed upon time. Please have a conversation with your child about not bringing toys to school. We will be reinforcing this rule with students as well.
*** If you would like to donate toys or games for the class use, please feel free to do so as it supports our practice and core value of being neighborly. We want students to have choice and voice in the activities they do during their free time, but we also want to make sure that students follow school rules as they are in place for a reason.
TRACEY STAFF LEAVING THEIR PRINT IN A MEANINGFUL WAY!
Next year we hope to have a larger Tracey team with more staff and families from our Tracey community. Please keep this event in mind as we move into the next school year.
Enrichment Clusters at Tracey
Every week your child has an enrichment cluster on a topic of their choice as part of Norwalk's Gifted and Talented Program redesign. This is our second week and students are really beginning to drive their own learning. This allows for EVERY child in Tracey to have an interest-based experience where they get to explore a subject that they selected with a Tracey staff member who shares the same interest. Please ask them about what they do each week. Clusters will meet every Thursday morning from 9:05-10:15. Below is a video of some cluster offerings as well as some updated pictures of clusters in action.
*** PS. If you are a parent who has a skill you may want to share with students or have some expertise in a topic you see as a cluster, please reach out to the school as perhaps you can be a guest at an enrichment cluster meeting. :)
