MDHS Counseling Newsletter
Welcome Back, Class of 2020!
Here’s to an AWESOME year, juniors! Can you believe you're already an upperclassman? Junior year can sometimes be known as a time when responsibilities and stress levels get ramped up... Please know that your school counselor is here to help you whenever you may need information, advice, or just someone to listen! Stop by any time before school, at lunch, during Office Hour, or after school, should you have a question or concern, of if you just want to say hello. You can also email to schedule an appointment with your counselor.
The counselors will be visiting all junior English classrooms on September 26th and 27th to go over information you need for the PSAT exam on October 10th.
Wellness @ MD
We have a Wellness Wall right outside of the counseling office that we are working on that you can check out! We will also be adding Wellness Workshops to several counseling events this year including our College Night, Office Hours, and more.
College Night
MD's College Night is Tuesday, October 9th. Mark your calendars! All students and their families are welcome to attend. Workshops begin @ 5PM and the College Fair begins @ 6PM.
Over 100 colleges will be represented! Don't miss this opportunity to explore and get some questions answered.
PSAT Testing Day
All-School Testing Day is Wednesday, October 10th, which is a minimum day. All juniors will take the PSAT/NMSQT, which prepares for the SAT and is linked to National Merit Scholarships. PSAT scores will be returned to juniors through their English classes in the Spring.
College Rep Visits
Be sure to meet with the visiting College Admission Representatives during lunch in Shamrock Plaza. Click here for a list of colleges and visit dates. Click here for a list of Questions to ask College Admission Representatives.

Get Involved!!!
If you haven't yet, don't miss out on getting involved at MD. Join clubs, join an athletic program, or participate in one of Mater Dei's many volunteer opportunities. You may also want to consider a leadership position in the activities you are involved in. Colleges are looking for the “well-rounded” individual--someone who not only challenges him/herself academically, but also pursues his/her passions through other activities. Read more about all our clubs on campus here.
Mater Dei’s Annual Club Fair will be on Wednesday September 12th and Thursday September 13 during both lunches at the Shamrock Plaza.
Student Athletes: NCAA and NAIA
If you are planning to play sports in college, be sure to inform your counselor and register with the NCAA and/or NAIA. For more information, please see the Student-Athlete page. You will also need to request that your official MD transcript be sent directly to NCAA through Parchment, www.parchment.com.
