Back to School Prayer
Lord God, Creator of body and mind and heart;
You have sent the Spirit of wisdom and knowledge to guide your people in all their ways.
At the beginning of this new school year we implore your mercy:
bless the students, teachers, staff and families that together we may grow in
faith, hope, and love as we learn from you and each other how to follow your Son Jesus.
Expand the horizons of our minds, that we may grow in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge; deepen our commitment to seek the truth of your ways;
and enliven our faith to reach out to those in need.
Amen
UPCOMING EVENTS
Running Club & ECSD Cross Country Run
Running Club is starting up this month for students in grades 3-6.
We will be training every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at lunch recess.
Students can sign up on Tuesday, September 6th with their homeroom teacher.
There will be a district-wide cross-country run at Rundle Park on Monday, September 26th at 3:00 pm. Students who would like to participate in the official cross-country run must be able to commit to this date and time. We will be bussing there; however, it is mandatory that parents/guardians be available to pick them up after the run. If students cannot commit to this, they are still welcome to join the running club for our training sessions!
All Holy Child families are invited to our Meet the Teacher and Parent Council night
on Thursday September 8th at 6pm. We will gather in the gym for some staff introductions
and general school information, as well as, a presentation by our wonderful Parent Council volunteers. Families will then have an opportunity to see their child's classroom and tour the school. We hope to see all of our families next week!
Our annual Terry Fox School Run to fundraise money for cancer research
is taking place on Friday, September 23. This is a fun event for a serious cause.
Many of us know someone who has been affected by cancer and we will be doing our part to fundraise money for cancer research.
If we raise $2,000, the entire school will get to dress up in costumes for the day! If we raise $2,500, students will get to watch their teachers compete in a tricycle race! If we raise $3,000, we will get to watch the top student fundraisers throw a pie at our school secretary.
If we raise $4,000, we will tape the Principal and Vice Principal to a wall.
To help us reach our fundraising goal of $4000, please consider donating
by going to our school's fundraising page: Holy Child Terry Fox Fundraiser
(click the DONATE button, then click TO THIS SCHOOL).
Students can also bring toonies for Terry to school on or before September 23.
Keep an eye out for Terry Fox School Run parent permission forms coming home soon!
We are also looking for parent volunteers to be our cheerleaders for the Terry Fox Run. Volunteers will be standing along the running path and cheering our students on as they run past the parent cheerleaders. We will be running for only one hour! From 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. the Kindergarten to grade 3 students will be running around the school grounds while the grade 4-6 students will be running through Constable Ezio Faraone Park into the ravine and back. Let’s make some noise! The more volunteers cheering our students on for this great cause, the merrier!
If you are interested in volunteering, please e-mail sophie.correia@ecsd.net.
The Edmonton Catholic Schools Elementary Cross Country Run
will be held at Rundle Park
for Grades 3-6
Students who would like to participate will be bussed there from the school and parents/guardians will need to pick their child up at 5pm.

Wear your Orange Shirt for Orange Shirt Day at Holy Child!
National Day for Truth and Reconciliation- No school
Both the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day
take place on September 30.
The day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.
