AFSA K-12 Families,

It was great to see all of the families at conferences both in person and virtually! A big thank you to all of the families that donated snacks for our teachers for conference day. We appreciate your support!

Our High School Leadership Conference is coming up Friday, February 10th from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the high school. All 7th-12th graders are invited to attend this free event to help build leadership skills, meet others, play games, and more! See below for details.

AFSA K-8's Winter Carnival - Saturday, January 28th!

Join us for our K-8 Winter Carnival on Saturday, January 28th, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at the K-8 building. There will be games and activities, concessions, a silent auction, book fair, SAE projects for sale and more with all proceeds benefitting the K-8 school!


Silent Auction Fun! You don't need to wait until Saturday to place your bids on silent auction items! Bidding is already open! Just click on the link below to check out the items, register as a bidder, and get ready to bid! The auction is open now through Saturday, the 28th, at 12:00 noon!

AFSA K-8 Book Fair

The last day for AFSA K-8's Book Fair is Saturday, January 28th 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.


New this year - the Book Fair will have eWallet options for families to set up payments ahead of time, or students/families may bring cash or card to the fair. Cost of books is the listed price on the book (some on sale will have sale stickers and a lower price, otherwise it's the barcode price) PLUS tax. MN sales tax does apply to these sales.


Proceeds from the fair help us restock classroom libraries!

High School Leadership Conference - 7th-12th Graders are Invited!

The high school leadership conference (HLC) is coming up Friday, February 10th from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the high school. All students in 7th-12th grade are invited to attend this free event!


Students will build their leadership skills, take part in a service project, play games, meet State and Regional FFA Officers and more!


Students wishing to attend should sign up in the front office at either the K-8 or High School or email Ms. Leiding or Ms. Crowley. The last day to sign up is Wednesday, February 8th at 3:00 p.m.


Any student in grades 7 & 8 who sign up will be bussed to the high school after lunch to attend, as this is a scheduled early release day. All students attending must have their own transportation home and are required to stay for the whole event. Students who register for HLC will receive additional event details in the coming weeks.

Science Fair Information - Grades 7-12

Our science fair dates are fast approaching! Family and friends are invited to join us to take a look at all of the awesome projects on each of the science fair evenings.


  • Science Fair Grades 7-9: Thursday, February 2nd 3:30 - 7:30 p.m*
  • Science Fair Grades 10-12: Thursday, February 16th 3:30 - 7:30 p.m.


*Parents of students who are presenting their science fair projects on February 2 should have received an email this week with their students' time slot and judging info.

Poster Boards: Does your student need a science fair board? Boards are available for purchase in the front office for $2.00.

Girls on the Run - Sign Up and Volunteer Opportunities

Girls on the Run (grade 3-5) and Heart and Sole (grades 6-8) will be offered at the K-8 building this spring.


Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.


Practices will be on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:15-4:45 starting the week of March 27, and will conclude with a 5k on June 2. Girl registration will open February 1, with a random lottery until February 8. After that is it first come first serve for sign ups.


We are looking for students that would like to be a Junior Coach. This volunteer position is for high school girls aged 16-18 years old who want to grow their leadership skills. Paired with a Mentor Coach, Junior Coaches receive support to develop their own skills while serving as role models to program participants.

Culver's Night

Go out to eat and support AFSA K-12 at the same time! Join us at the Culver's in Little Canada (2880 Rice Street) from 5-7 p.m. on the following dates:


  • February 21, 2023 (Proceeds go to the AFSA Martial Arts Club)
  • March 21, 2023 (Proceeds go to Infinite REACH Club)
  • April 18, 2023 (Proceeds go to the AFSA Softball Team)
  • May 16, 2023 (Proceeds go to the AFSA K-8 Fab Lab Club)


AFSA receives 10% of the food sales from 5-7 p.m. for each of the nights. Some months the money earned will go to support a specific club at AFSA K-12.

AFSA K-12 Family Game Night at The Battleground Cafe

Join us for our next AFSA K-12 Family Game Night at The Battleground Cafe (2008 Co Rd E East, White Bear Lake) Monday, February 6, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. There will be all sorts of gaming fun and giveaways!


This is a great opportunity to meet other AFSA families! We will have students and staff leading games and teaching games.

        Attention Seniors - Ready, Set, FAFSA!

        Join the Minnesota Department of Education this February for a series of financial aid webinars created specifically for students and families to help them prepare for the college application process. Sessions will provide information on applying for financial aid, filling out the FAFSA, and searching for scholarships.

        Scholarship Opportunity for Seniors

        James W. Tracy Scholarship

        Minnesota FFA Foundation presents the James W. Tracy Scholarship! The scholarship is $2000. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2023. For more details and to apply please click here.

        Diversity Scholarship
        The Diversity Scholarship seeks to provide financial support for students from underrepresented groups in the agriculture teacher field. Undergraduate students entering their first or second year of an Agricultural Education-Teacher Licensure program at Southwest Minnesota State University, the University of Minnesota–Crookston, or the University of Minnesota–Twin Cities are eligible to apply. This includes incoming freshmen, transfer students (transferring colleges/universities or majors), and current students.

        Be a Part of the AFSA StAFSA Community - Now Hiring

        Become a part of the AFSA StAFSA community! We are looking for a few additional staff members. Please pass these opportunities on to friends and family!


        • We are looking for substitute teachers for grades K-12, all subjects. Must hold or be eligible for an MN teaching license. On call as needed.
        • We are also hiring Educational Assistants.
        • We are looking for bus drivers and van drivers.

        City of Vadnais Youth Representative

        The City of Vadnais Heights is looking for Vadnais Heights residents who are 15-20 years old, currently enrolled in school, to serve as youth representatives on the city commissions to offer their perspectives on a variety of issues like park and trail planning, real estate development, and health and safety.         The school directory is a great way for AFSA K-12 families to stay in touch!
