Principal's Message
Since the return of students on October 16, faculty/staff and students have worked tirelessly to make up for lost time. Teachers and students are wrapping up their beginning of year assessments in mClass Reading 3D and their Diagnostic assessments in iReady Reading and Math. We also celebrated National Red Ribbon Week by participating in Spirit Days designed to bring attention to the dangers of drugs and alcohol. Those activities came to an end on October 31st as we celebrated Halloween by having an afternoon school-wide trick-or-treating event!
Please take a look at what our DinoMite teachers highlighted below from the month of October!

Pre-Kindergarten
Ms. Harriger's Class
Pre-K has had an exciting October. We were all so happy to be back to school! The Pre-K students have been busy getting to know each other and our classroom. We also have worked on pumpkin themed projects. The students enjoyed our Red Ribbon Week! One our favorite red ribbon days was what I want to be when I grow up. We are excited to see what we are going to be learning in November.
Kindergarten
Ms. McClain's Class
In October, students in Ms. McClain’s kindergarten class were able to learn their letters and sounds through Letterland. Letterland is a great opportunity for kids to identify letters and sounds. Students worked hard in centers and were able to complete Letterland activities on the smartboard to help writing letters and learning the sounds. What a fun way to learn the alphabet!

We have also discussed the season fall and the things we see in fall, such as changing of leaves, pumpkins, Halloween, and cooler weather. We wrote sentences about candy corn and we allowed the children to taste candy corn, for some of them it was there first time and they liked it.
Ms. Strickland & Ms. Harding's Class
This has been an exciting month in Mrs. Strickland and Mrs. Harding’s Kindergarten class. We are learning how to write our name, letters and numbers. We are working in Letterland learning all about new characters such as Annie apple and Bouncy Ben. Halloween is coming and we learned about Halloween traditions and Halloween safety.
Ms. Branch & Ms. Murray's Class
In Mrs. Branch and Mrs. Murray’s kindergarten class we are learning so much. We are working on our sight words, the alphabet and sounds that the letters make as well as writing. We have discussed Halloween safety and things you might associate with Halloween such as black cats, pumpkin patches and pumpkin carving, lastly of course we discussed all the candy you get when you go trick or treating. We have been enjoying participating in all the Red Ribbon Week activities each day. I think it’s safe to say we’re having a blast in room 105.
First Grade
Ms. Johnson's Class
As a fun way of practicing how to count to 120 while getting the wiggles out, our class followed a count to 120 dance along video. This video puts dance moves to counting. It allows the students to get out of their seats and move, and also helps them learn how to count to 120. They love it!

Second Grade
Ms. Hatton's Class
Happy Fall from Ms. Hatton’s class! In October, the students read fiction and nonfiction literature. In English/language arts the students studied the main idea, problem and solution, characters, setting, and the sequence of stories. Also, the students learned more spelling and vocabulary words. In math, the students learned how to add and subtract double digit numbers without regrouping, greater than/less than/equal to, even and odd numbers, and skip counting. The students have studied life cycles in science. The students learned about being a responsible citizen in social studies. The students have also been completing their Iready and Reading 3d assessments. The students are making progress. I am thankful for parental support and I look forward to continuing to work together with the parents and students to help increase the student’s knowledge both academically and socially.

Ms. Phillips' Class
Since the beginning of school, our class has been learning about the Solar System in Science. The students have enjoyed working in groups to complete the Solar System Scavenger Hunt on the internet. The students also watched The Magic Schools Bus gets Lost in Space and had to answer questions as they watched the video. To end the unit, the students worked with a partner to complete a Planet Project. They were allowed to pick a planet of their choice and use the internet and books to answer questions given by the teacher. The students then had to draw their planet and present their findings to the class. The students are doing a great job integrating technology into subject areas and collaborating with their peers.

Ms. Parker's Class
This month our 3rd grade class has been focused on recounting stories, theme and character traits during ELA. They have enjoyed creating anchor charts to visual the concept and assist in learning. Multiplication using arrays and repeated addition has been our focus in Math. Working with partners, using manipulatives and drawing arrays have been a big help. We have started on division and are learning how it is the inverse operation of multiplication. The Earth and our solar system has been our focus in Science. We have been working extra hard in class. At the end of the day, we have been reading and study the book Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It’s a wonderful story of acceptance and kindness.
Ms. Watson's Class
In our class this month we are learning how to divide. Students are working to understand how division is related to subtraction and is the inverse of multiplication. Students are using counters to show how division is equal sharing while conducting a problem-solving investigation.
