What We Learned This Week!

  • Math:
  • Completed Math Expressions 2.2-2.5. Students solved more area related word problems, learned how to multiply and divide with 7 and 8, solved fast array drawings with an unknown number, and wrote words problems and equations.

  • Writing:
  • Students responded to 5 journal prompts in their writing notebook. Students presented their Personal Narrative "Masterpieces" and began their Saint report.

  • Vocabulary:
  • Students began Unit 5 in their Vocabulary books. They learned the definition of the words: baggage, worthy, haste, lash, humid, oppose, antique, sensible, digest, eternal, establish, and pioneer. Students completed antonym, synonym and completing the sentence activities.

  • Social Studies:
  • Students continued Unit 3: Geography and the Way We Live. Students learned about how geography affects our community, what geography is, and about climate, natural resources and natural hazards. Students watched a video on natural hazards.

  • Religion:
  • We completed Unit 3: Christ Will Come Again. We read Good News: Jesus Teaches Us to Pray Students took their Unit 3 Test.

  • Reading:
  • Students have been reading their own books in class, on Epic and Raz Kids. Students took a written response test on the last book, James and the Giant Peach, by Roald Dahl. Students voted on our next book: The Mouse and the Motorcycle, by Beverly Cleary

  • Science:
  • We continued our first Science Unit: Balancing Forces. Students completed a Science experiment on gravity and magnetic force - they made a paperclip "float" (:

  • Spelling:
  • Students completed their 9th week of spelling words which included words with the /f/ sounds.

    James and The Giant Peach (Tuesday, October 25th)

    • 3rd grade will be watching, James and The Giant Peach, on Tuesday, October 25th
    • Students are encouraged to wear Pjs and bring a stuffed animal
    • Popcorn will be provided. Please reach out to me if your child is not able to have popcorn
    • 3rd grade is looking forward to this movie day, woohoo!

    Family Fun Night (Friday, October 28t, 6:00pm-9:00pm)

    • 3 volunteers (but more the merrier) are needed for Family Fun Night on Friday, October 28th. 4pm-6pm is set up time. Please reach out to Room Moms if you are interested in this and look out for a Sign-up Genius from them.

    Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes.

    All Saints Day (Friday, October 28th)

    • Please note that Saints Day and Family Fun Night are on the same date. Students wear their Saints costume to school this day and can wear their Halloween costume to Family Fun Night later that day.
