IB Update:
Students in fourth grade participated in a wonderful visual arts workshop from the San Diego based arts organization, ARTREACH last week. Each student created an Aboriginal dreamtime inspired painting after learning about important features of Aboriginal spiritual beliefs on the origin of creation. This project connected to the line of inquiry, The impact of exploration on culture and relationships of native inhabitants in their IB unit, Where we are in place and time.
Additional Information:
If you have any questions about our IB program, please reach out to our IB coordinator, Sharon Scott-Gonzalez at sharonscott-gonzalez@vistausd.org
Mrs. B's Update:
This week in 4th, and 5th grade we focused on Resilience. We all have different levels and amounts of resilience depending on life experiences, DNA, and our unique selves. We shared about losing a pet, a loved one, or any life experience that has been difficult but has made us stronger as a result.
In Kindergarten we focused on How We Express Ourselves by reading the story “I like Myself” and we shared the qualities we need to be a good friend, like being good listeners, sharing, helping others, and treating others the way we want to be treated!!!

Vista Academy's English Learner Program:
English Learners are currently taking the ELPAC assessment. The test will be given remotely for Virtual students and on campus for Classic students. Please see the parent letters below, for more information about the ELPAC.
Exciting News for Virtual Dance:
Virtual students are dancing live on Zoom with Ms. Sanders twice a month. All students will be designated as group purple or teal for their class. Group purple logs on during their dance time the first and third week of the month and teal will join the dance Zoom the second and fourth week of the month.
To help ensure a fun and safe learning experience for all students, we need your help with the following:
Students must be on time for their Zoom. Due to the nature of this class, students who are late may not be allowed to join the class once it is in session. During their dance time, students must have a safe space to dance without distractions. All videos must be on to ensure that Ms. Sanders can monitor students and provide feedback. If students are unable to have their cameras on for dance, a parent/guardian must email the classroom teacher and Ms. Sanders at vapadance@vistausd.org to let them both know before the class starts. Students with videos off without an email notification will be given one reminder. If the camera remains off, the student will be removed from dance class for that day. There is no eating or drinking during dance. Students will be given water breaks when appropriate, so please have water accessible nearby. Dancers should not have to leave their dance space to get water. Remember that cameras are on for all students. When possible, please keep the backgrounds clear of other people in the household.
Art Specialties at Vista Academy:
Vista Academy students have art specialty classes in dance, drama and music every week. Research has shown that participation in the arts has many benefits to students now, as well as later on in life. Each week we will feature a Why Art card from ART=OPPORTUNITY. More information and links to the studies on the benefits of the arts can be found on the website.
