Weekly Happenings
This week, we learned that contractions are words that are made by shortening and combining two words. We revisited the decoding strategies we have learned thus far. We studied words that contain the consonant blends "nk" and "ng." We continued our study of poetry.
In social studies, we learned what school was like for children long ago.
In math, we continued our study of money. We practiced counting coins to 99 cents. We learned that we can make the same amount of money using different combinations of coins. Also, we began solving basic money story problems and creating money story problems ourselves! Please continue practicing counting money at home!
In science, we continued our discussion and exploration of soil and its characteristics.

February Family Project!
Hats, Scarves, and Gloves
Please label your child's HAT, SCARVES, AND GLOVES with his/her first and last name. These items tend to be left in the gym, classroom, hallway, or on the playground. If items are labeled, they are less likely to be picked up by others and easier to be returned to their rightful owner if left behind or misplaced. Encourage your child to place their hats, gloves and scarves inside their coat sleeves.
