Don't touch that mouse ... it's time for BricksCenter!
Boys Basketball
The draw paired Hobart with NCC rival Kankakee Valley in a rematch from last Tuesday ... a 60-51 Kougar victory. Early on, the more experienced Kougars looked calm and cool as they connected on almost every shot attempt in the first quarter and the young Brickies battled some nervous jitters, falling behind 20-11. CALL IT A COMEBACK in the 2nd quarter as our boys clamped down on D-D-D-DEFENSE - limiting KV to only 7 pts - and cut the deficit to only 4, 27-23, going into halftime. The 3rd quarter saw more of the same as Hobart's defense was SUFFOCATING in holding KV to only 4 pts as the teams headed into the last quarter tied at 31 a piece!! The last 8 minutes were INTENSE ... guys diving on the floor, skying through the lane for rebounds ... neither team wanting to give an edge! Hobart held a small lead with under a minute to go, but KV was able to tie it up at 42 and the game went to OVERTIME!! That's right folks ... we got 4 more minutes of fun! Kankakee Valley surged ahead midway through the extra session and led 52-46 with about a minute to play. Things looked bleak for the Brickies trailing 56-50 with under 20 seconds, but a HUGE 3-pointer by junior Sean Underdahl cut the Kougar lead to 56-53 and the Brickies fouled to stop the clock at 6 seconds. KV missed BOTH ATTEMPTS and when sophomore David Brown rebounded the miss, Hobart had one more shot to send the game to a 2nd overtime! Brown's halfcourt heave looked good when it left his hands ... but as the buzzer sounded, the ball ricocheted off the backboard and rim - narrowly missing it's target - and KV survived to play in Friday's semi-final against state-ranked Valparaiso. Sophomore David Brown had a MONSTER game as he led Hobart with 17 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal!
It was a TERRIFIC game to watch ... from a fan's perspective ... with an unfortunate ending. Our guys were RELENTLESS - they never got rattled despite the early 3-point barrage from KV that led to a 9-point deficit. They STAYED THE COURSE and KEPT PLAYING ... NEVER GIVING UP until the final buzzer sounded. That's how they were all season. These boys represented the PURPLE & GOLD so well ALL YEAR with their EFFORT and ATTITUDE ... with all but 1 player returning next year, the FUTURE looks bright - might want to invest in a new pair of shades :)
