Summer Reading
It isn’t too early to begin thinking about ways to keep your child reading this summer. Summer reading is critical so that students are able to maintain the growth they have made this school year. Research has shown that summer learning loss can amount to losing a half year’s growth! However, students who participate in summer reading programs often make academic gains over the summer. We are fortunate to have access to many great reading programs this summer! Consider participating in at least one of the following to help your child start next year strong! Contact Mrs. Moulis at moulism@oasd.org for more information on any of these programs.
Oconomowoc Public Library: The Oconomowoc Public Library runs a great summer reading program to encourage students to continue to read over the summer. Greenland students will be hearing more about these programs during presentations on May 25th.
Epic!: An on-line library that provides over 20,000 books for students to read on any device. There is a free 30 day trial and after that a monthly subscription costs $4.99.
LOL Bookmobile: Once again, the LOL bookmobile will be making scheduled stops around Oconomowoc for book check out, guest readers, snacks and crafts! New this year – evening stops at Fowler Park and additional titles for Upper Elementary and Intermediate students.

ITS Summer Theater Workshop
Hi,
My name is Peggie Alexander and I am President of Oconomowoc High School’s International Thespian Society. Last year we embarked on an amazing service project, which provided a free theatre workshop to children in the community. Due to the wild success of last year, we have decided to do it again this year!
Since we would love for as many kids as possible to join us for this fun day, I was wondering if it would be possible if you would be able to send out a school wide e-mail to the parents about this opportunity. This would be greatly appreciated by all of us in the theater department at Oconomowoc High School.
Here is a description about the day;
“The workshop will take place on July 22nd, 2017 at the Oconomowoc Arts Center. Sign in will be from 9:30am-10:00am, and the fun will begin shortly after! Instead of a fee for this workshop, we ask for a small donation to the Oconomowoc Food Pantry. These would include non-perishable food items (canned foods, cereal, etc,) or hygiene products (shampoo, body wash, toothpaste, etc.). It is also very important that you come in with your child, as there will be a permission slip that will need to be signed. In addition we ask that all allergies or health related issues are mentioned as well, in case of an emergency.
There will be a one hour lunch/recess. We ask all students to bring a bagged lunch for the day. If your child is unable to do so, we will be able provide a lunch for them with notice ahead of time. Please Don’t hesitate to ask! The activities will end at 3:00pm with a pick up at that
time. We are so excited to be hosting this event again this year and for your child to join us! We all know that it will be such a fun time while also a great way to learn about theater!”
