The Crosby Chronicle
Weekly Newsletter ~ May 24-28, 2021
GREETINGS FROM PRINCIPAL FERGUSON!
I hope this newsletter finds you all staying healthy. It is so hard to believe that this is our last week of school. We only have 4 more days in our ABC Countdown to Summer! It feels like we just got started and are in the groove of our routine and learning. It is hard to believe that we’re now wrapping up the school year.
Our Crosby Kids have impressed me all year! The students who have been coming into the school building to learn have shown such happiness and joy. Our students who have remained at home send us emails and chat with us on zoom. We have seen so many students who are excited about school, and they are really committed to their learning. A majority of our students have demonstrated that they are ready to learn new concepts and practice essential skills. Their perseverance and resilience through a challenging school year makes me very proud of these Crosby Kids. I really appreciate the fact that our students care, and are very committed to school.
I have a few reminders for you regarding this week and following the last day of school:
Popsicles with the Principal - Thank you to our PTO for providing us with popsicles to share on the playground. We will enjoy this treat on Wednesday, May 26.
Last Day of School - Thursday, May 27. Dismissal is at 12:30 pm. THERE IS NO ZOOM INSTRUCTION FROM 2:00-3:00 PM ON THAT DAY.
Report Cards - Our in person students will be bringing home a paper copy of their report card on Thursday, May 27 (last day of school). All report cards for our remote students will be mailed out that same day, so please watch for the report cards in the mail. Families will also be able to view their child's report card by logging into Power School.
Student Chrome Books - ALL students will keep their chrome books for the summer. Please remember to take care of the device, and remind our students about being responsible when using it.
Class Lists for 2021-2022 - Due to the unknown variables with students who may be remote in the fall, as well as the uncertainty of which staff may be teaching the remote learners, I will not be able to confirm your child's teacher for the following school year until we have more information. We put a great deal of thought into creating each teacher's class list in order to maintain a balance for each classroom. Once we have more information, I will be sure to send you the name of your child's teacher. Please watch for this information in July.
May 14 School Pictures- We will see the photo packets delivered to the school soon. As you may remember, Inter State Studio could not guarantee that the photos that were taken on May 14, would be back to the school by May 27. We will be in communication with those of you who are waiting for your school pictures. Once we receive the packets in the office, we will call you and have you pick them up in the school office.
Summer Meals - This summer, Harvard CUSD 50 will continue to deliver meals to students who opt-in. Anyone 18 and under is eligible for the free meals. If you are interested in receiving meals this summer, the sign up for June is already closed but this is the link for the form that updates each month. If you complete the form, you will be able to opt-in and receive meals.

If any families missed the sign up for June and need meals, please email d50communications@cusd50.org
In this newsletter you will see some photos of a few of our our final group of "Students of the Quarter" for the 2020-2021 school year! Our in person students received their award packets at school last week. For the students who are remote, their packets were mailed out on Friday, so please watch for the packet in the mail.
Thank you to all of our families who have continued to support and encourage our students during this challenging time! Please keep in touch with us. As always, we value your feedback. If you feel we can help your child in any way, please feel free to call us.
Have a wonderful last week of school, and a safe and restful Memorial Day Weekend!

KEEP READING THIS SUMMER AT HARVARD DIGGINS LIBRARY!
"CHECK OUT" WHAT IS HAPPENING AT OUR CROSBY LIBRARY!
One of the key things we teach at Crosby, in addition to being respectful and safe, is to be responsible. Please help your student practice responsibility by helping them look for their books and/or paying any fines so they can start the 2021-2022 school year with a clean slate. Thank you for your support.
Library books can be returned to any school in the district. They do not need to be returned to the school they came from. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Belena Garza at bgarza@cusd50.org.
THE "COUNSELING CORNER" ~ MRS. SPAULDING & MRS. ALTMANN
Hello, Crosby Families!
Our school counselors, get to hear the most amazing ideas from our students. They listen and encourage the students to give them feedback. This past week, Mrs. Spaulding and Mrs. Altmann shared with me some of the "Kindergarten Words of Wisdom" from our current kindergarteners as they were asked what advice they have for our incoming kindergarteners in the "Class of 2034!"
Please take a few moments to read this excellent advice from our "Class of 2033."
Have a wonderful last week of school and feel free to contact Mrs. Spaulding and Mrs. Altmann if you have any questions.!

JUMPSTART
Jumpstart is a week-long ‘camp’ to help students develop relationships with their peers, acclimate to their school building, and learn skills and strategies to help them be successful in the upcoming school year.
Jumpstart is not academic in nature. The purpose of the program is to address each student’s social-emotional needs and help them feel comfortable and at ease with the structure and requirements of in-person school.
Jumpstart is projected to run week-long sessions starting at the end of July. More details will be available in the upcoming months.

THE "SOCIAL BUZZ" ~ MS. LORENA VILLAGOMEZ & MR. BRANDON BARRY
Hi Crosby Families!
We did it! It has been a unique year for all of us here at Crosby and we have successfully finished it. I am extremely grateful to all of the parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings, babysitters, etc. that stepped in this year to help with their students' education and social-emotional needs at home. We are truly grateful here at Crosby for all of the help and patience as we learned the ropes of remote learning. I hope you all take this summer to step away from technology and enjoy the beautiful days outside with your family.
For our third grade families, I wish you all the best going into Jefferson. Mrs. Julie Theisz and Mr. Jason Henning are Jefferson's school social workers and they will be able to assist you with anything! You can contact them by email at jtheisz@cusd50.org and jhenning@cusd50.org
Have a great summer! We cannot wait to see what the 2021-2022 school year has in store for all of us.
