Blue Ribbon Reconfiguration Meeting
A huge thank you to the parents who set up, organized and conducted the meeting with Board President Brian Summerfield and School Superintendent Dr. Gary Niehaus last Thursday. Excellent questions were posed to both and certainly gave them and the rest of the Board of Education things to think about.
Moving forward, please remember that we do have our Town Hall set for Tuesday, May 14 at 6:30 PM in our auditorium. I ask that as we navigate through this tough conversation that we continue to act and speak in a respectful way. Although thoughts or actions may be our own, it is seen as a representation of the Trombly community. I, as the principal, want our school and community to be seen as a dedicated and caring group who act in a respectful, civil manner.
If you decide to reach out to the 7 Board of Education members ( the decision makers ), the best communication would be student-centered, solution-seeking and factful.

Student Leadership Team collecting Pop Tabs
Little things can have a big impact!
The Trombly Student Leadership Team is collecting pop tabs in support of
What: The tab of an aluminum can is pure aluminum unlike the rest of the can,
which contains paint and residue. Pop tabs are small and convenient to
collect. Pop tabs can come from pop cans, soup cans, canned fruits and
veggies and even pet food cans. It takes between 1,000 to 1,500 pop
tabs to make one pound of aluminum, Ronald McDonald House Charities
can get between 30 and 75 cents for one pound of pop tabs.
How: Please use the attached plastic bag to collect pop tabs and bring them to
school. Each classroom will have a container to collect them in and we will
be weighing them weekly.
When: We will start collecting pop tabs this week and continue through the end
of the year.
So spread the word! Let your family and friends know their small pop tabs can make a big difference.
- Thank you from the Trombly Student Leadership Team!
Leader in Me - Habit #6 - Syngergize
This month, we are learning about Habit 6: Synergize.
Together Is Better-Creativity, cooperation, diversity, and humility. This habit is achieved when two or more people work together to create a better solution than either would have thought of alone. It’s not your way or my way, but a better way. Think of 1 + 1 = 3 (or more). How is that possible? Well, 1 person + another person = 2 ideas + many, many more that neither of them would have thought of alone. It’s taking good ideas and making them better by working together and looking for a third alternative.
Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing your child’s leadership skills.
Camp Invention is Returning to GPPS!
In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame® (NIHF), Brownell Middle School is pleased to offer the nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® program to children entering kindergarten through sixth grade. It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation. Children work together to create solutions to real-world problems and build critical 21st-century skills while rotating through several high-energy, hands-on modules. The week begins on June 24, 2019 with Caitlin Kefgen serving as Director of the ALL-NEW 2019 program, Supercharged!
Activities give participants the opportunity to explore, discover and achieve while having fun!
Local educators facilitate program modules and enthusiastic high-school students serve as Leadership Interns, ensuring that one staff member is in place for every eight children.
