Hacked! In more ways than one.
Way #2. Good. I was in NYC last week and did the tourist thing at the New York Public Library. I haven't been there in years and thought it was about time. We missed the docent-led tour but the very helpful folks at the clearly labeled information desk let us know that there were free audio guides. ( Libraries are awesome!) These turned out to be excellent, with interesting historical tidbits and short videos of some of the restricted areas. While in the children's section getting all fangirl in front of the Winnie the Pooh display, I dropped my guide and the headset came unplugged. This caused the whole thing to shut down. I took it to the circulation desk and said, "I know this isn't your thing, but do you know how I can fix it?" The very cheerful librarian said, "No, I don't know." as she took it out of my hand and proceeded to make a phone call, unbend a paperclip and use it to push the secret reset button. A reminder that, if you ever need a "life hack" bring your problem to a librarian!
Way #3. Also Good. Speaking of the NYPL, did you know that any resident of or tax payer to NY State is eligible for a NYPL card? It's an easy process and gives you access to all their digital content - think audio books, ebooks, databases and more. To get started, just click on this link.
As spring slowly materializes, I wish you warming sunshine and more good hacks than bad. And make sure to check out all the great stuff we have and all the great stuff we have going on.
