This week: Summer reading
For many students, there are two words that bring storm clouds to summer vacation: Summer Reading. Even students who choose to read for enjoyment often balk when presented with a list of required titles. As teachers, we must ask ourselves: what is the motivation behind assigning specific books? Are we building community through common experience? Developing a framework for next semester's curriculum? Sharing this information with students in June can help with the success of your plans in September. Above all, the time away from school presents an opportunity for students (and teachers, too) to explore a personal passion, discover a new author or take a mental vacation with a really entertaining beach read. The resources below help you illustrate for your students the endless options for summer reading.
