Message from Geordie

Afternoon everyone!

Very quick one from me this week as typing is a little tricky! Huge thanks to everyone for their support with my accident. The banter and kind words has made my day just that bit brighter. Surgery next Wednesday – Yahoo!

Our Year 5 students had an awesome day on Wednesday, participating in their Leadership Day in preparation for next year. All reports coming from the teachers and students was that it was a worthwhile experience and a really enjoyable day. I am excited about working with all our Year 6 leaders next year and will rely on every student in Year 6 to lead by example and help out in many different ways! Huge thanks to Mrs Resuggan, Mr Sly, Mr Hilton and Mrs Deshon for organising and running the day.

We are looking forward to the Official Opening of the Courts next Friday and we will be welcoming Mr Paul Papalia to our school. If you can make it, please let us know if the Form below as this will help us to get organised.

We are also holding IT Parent Meetings on Monday (Current Year 3 Class) and Tuesday (Current Year 4 and 5 Classes) to outline our new IT Program here at St Bernie’s. I realise how busy life is, so we will post the PowerPoint for parents who are unable to attend.

There are an increasing number of students who are not being collected by 3.20pm. We understand that occasionally parents are unable to get to school by this time but this should not become a regular occurrence.

Finally, I have had a number of reports recently that some of our older students who are riding to school have been riding dangerously on the road, not wearing helmets and not taking care with pedestrians on the footpaths. Leading into Christmas students are tired and at times, make decisions that they may not make normally. Can I ask parents to chat to their children and we will follow this up here at school. I would hate for an accident to occur – I know first-hand how important it is to stay upright on the bike!

I hope you all have a great weekend. The weeks are just flying by.

Uniform Guidelines - Update

Attached are the new school uniform guidelines. The uniform committee has been meeting over the past four months. They have sifted through the feedback from the community and have worked hard to ensure the uniform guidelines not only reflect what is important to St Bernadette’s but provide clarity around the uniform and guidelines.

The main changes are:

- The removal of the school dress and tights. There will be a two-year transition.

- Dresses are not to be worn from 2024 onwards.

- The removal of sandals. There will be a one-year transition.

- Sandals are not to be worn from 2023 onwards.

- All students now require the school bag.

- Pre Kindy and Kindy will wear full Sports uniform (with their Kindy t-shirts).

- Students no longer need to tuck in their red school shirt.

- Students can wear all items of the uniform throughout the year.

- Sneakers can be white or black or black and white.
