Principal's Pride
It is my pleasure to acknowledge the following students: Thomas Anderson, Karma Barnard, Aubre Eichelt, Breanna Freed, Elliot Koenig, Kaylee Kohls, Brooklyn Krumenauer, Everleigh Peterson, Izabella Poppe, Jacob Wold & Olivia Yeager for their willingness to to be awesome helpers, and for working very hard on their academics.
Thomas frequently come to the library and puts books away for me during Hornet Time. He does a great job re-shelving them in the correct order, and straightening the shelves. He is a very well-mannered, thoughtful person. Thomas will be missed at the Elementary in the fall.
Karma has improved her behavior so much over the last few weeks! It is so wonderful to see her finishing her work and being respectful.
Aubre has been very kind and helpful with our new student. She is thoughtful about trying to help with her. Thank you Aubre!
Breanna helped our class by organizing our game cabinet without being asked. I appreciate her willingness to use her gift of organization and demonstrating it to her classmates! Thanks for helping out Breanna!
Elliot was able to stand up for what he knew was right. When another student was being disrespectful and trying to get him to go along, he ignored them and did the right thing. Awesome job Elliot!
Kaylee has been working hard to be a good role model to others. We are trying to look like "1st Graders" and she is doing a good job of it. Way to go Kaylee!
Brooklyn is doing an amazing job at school. She is a hard worker and she is always respectful and kind. Her teacher loves having her bright little face in her class!
Everleigh is a very caring friend. When she saw she had accidentally hurt another child's feelings, she quickly apologized and offered a hug. Thanks for being a great friend Everleigh!
Izabella has really worked hard this year to learn letters and letter sounds. Now she is even using letter sounds to write words. She has really shown determination this year, and her teacher is so proud of her. Great job Izabella!
Jacob has been very respectful in our classroom and especially in the hallways lately. He listens to directions and works hard in our class. In the hallway , he always has a calm body and quiet voice. Thank you Jacob!
Olivia has been working hard in reading, to find text evidence to support an idea. She has grown so much by persevering when something is different at first! Great job Olivia!

First Graders Field Trip full of Excitement!
On April 28th, the Cadott First Graders went on a field trip to Eau Claire. First, we headed to Texas Roadhouse for a tour and lunch. The students got to make their own biscuits, and they even learned how to line dance! Then we went to the play, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs at the ECCT on Oxford Avenue in Eau Claire. It was an excellent chance for the students to experience the arts. Our PACE organization helped with the cost of the field trip, and we are very grateful for their kindness. It was a very educational and memorable experience for all the students!

Protecting Eyes from Ultraviolet Rays Today Can Help Save Sight in the Future
Prevent Blindness Wisconsin Declares May as Ultraviolet (UV) Awareness Month to Educate Public on Dangers of Extended UV Exposure
Many people know about the damage that ultraviolet (UV) rays can have on the skin, from sunburns to skin cancers. But many may not know about the damage it may cause to the eyes. That is why Prevent Blindness Wisconsin has declared May as UV (ultraviolet) Awareness Month. The goal is to help educate the public on the dangers of UV and steps to take to protect vision today and in the future.
UV damage to the eyes can be immediate, including a condition called “ultraviolet keratitis.” According to the Cleveland Clinic, this occurs from exposure to ultraviolet rays that can temporarily damage the cornea (the clear portion of the eye in front of the pupil) and the conjunctiva, a layer of cells covering the inside of the eyelid and the whites of the eye. Symptoms, such as eye pain, tears, blurred vision, light sensitivity and seeing halos, may last from 6 to 24 hours, but they usually disappear within 48 hours.
However, some UV damage may be cumulative, leading to cataract or macular degeneration later in life. People who work or play in the sun for long periods of time are at the greatest risk. Parents should make sure that children are wearing the proper sun protection at all times when outdoors.
When purchasing sunglasses, Prevent Blindness Wisconsin also recommends buying sunglasses that:
· reduce glare
· block 100 percent of UV-A and UV-B rays
· are comfortable to wear
· do not distort colors
· are safe for outdoor activities, such as sports
Sunglasses should be worn in conjunction with a brimmed hat. Wrap-around sunglasses are best as they protect not only the eyes but the delicate skin around the eyes as well.
“The best way to protect your eyes, and your family’s eyes from UV, is to talk with an eyecare professional. By discussing your unique needs, he or she can provide guidance on the best ways to protect your eyes today and help ensure healthy vision for years to come,” said Tami Radwill, Executive Director of Prevent Blindness Wisconsin.
For more information on the dangers of UV exposure and how to choose the best UV protection, please visit the Prevent Blindness dedicated Web page at http://www.preventblindness.org/protect-your-eyes-sun or Prevent Blindness Wisconsin at 414-765-0505.
