Nursing Occupations Program

Students in the Nursing Occupations program are excited to begin their clinical experience at Hoyt Nursing and Rehab Centre beginning in April. Students have been preparing for this real-world experience since fall earning certifications in First Aid, Basic Life Saving, and Stop the Bleed, along with extensive curriculum and training preparing for the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) Certification. Students are eager and ready to demonstrate their skills in the real-world with patients! Students are also training on a new Google Electronic Health Records System created exclusively for SCC students by Nursing Occupations Instructor, Dr. Haworth. Electronic records are used to manage all patient information including patient history, vitals, medications, lab work, and more.

SCC Nursing students lead and participate in numerous community service projects building a physically and mentally healthier community. Some of their projects this year include participation in multiple blood drives, Valentines for Veterans, Pasta for Pennies supporting the Leukemia Society, and more. Students indicate what they enjoy most about the Nursing Program is hands-on training, helping others, AND the hot cocoa station!

What's New at SCC?

New Health Wing for Students

To enhance their clinical training experience, SCC’s Nursing Occupations students are the first to move into the newly expanded and remodeled Health Wing now located on the southwest side of campus. The new classroom and clinical laboratory hosts a variety of high-tech instructional tools. SimMan patient simulators provide students a diverse range of patient scenarios to help prepare for real-world situations including patient care, decision-making, and team communication. And with a swipe of their finger on the Anatomage 3D Virtual Dissection Table, students can rotate a patient cadaver 360 degrees and dissect to reveal anatomical features in full detail! In a recent lab, students dissected a human heart and explored red and white blood cells. Medical Careers’ students will join in the new Health Wing beginning this fall.

Did You Know?

All SCC Programs Are Supported by CTE Advisory Committees

It is vitally important that we understand the ever-changing knowledge and skills needed in the world of work. Local business and community professionals support our students by sharing their expertise through Program Advisory Committees that also include teachers, students, administrators, and parents. The committee advises and supports educators and students regarding the skills, knowledge, tools, technology, and tasks needed in today’s careers. They also share information about education, equipment, certifications, curriculum, safety, employability skills, host field trips, serve as guest speakers, judge competitions, and so much more! CTE Advisory Committees are essential to the future success of our students as well as the workforce.
