At the Creek....
December 16, 2022
Hello Rabbit Creek families,
As you may have heard, our district and schools are looking at plans for how to move forward in the event that we continue to have significant snowfall this year. With winter "officially" starting on the 21st, there is high likelihood that we've got much more snow ahead and the hope is that it will be in smaller amounts at a time. The elementary division is working on plans for Remote Learning days, similar to what the MatSu School District is currently doing. This looks to include direct communication from staff, the sharing of activities that can be done at home, and a Zoom session for those who have technology for use. Although Chromebooks were distributed during the Covid time, we are unable to deploy them for such remote days due to the significant time it requires to both do so and get them returned. The hope is that any school closure days would be for a single day at a time, rather than multiple in a row as we're currently experiencing. Our staff met and have provided some feedback for the district team and we hope to have more information on these plans very soon. These will be shared with you as soon as we know more. We all know that days away from school have an impact on students and their learning. We hope to have school in session every day from here on out but also want to be prepared in the event we're unable to do so.
December is time for our Winter Benchmarks and we've been working hard to fit in our assessments in between the days away from school. We will plan to complete our MAP assessments with our 3rd and 5th grade students on Monday. Please help us in doing so by making sure your child is at school and ready to go!
We have three short days next week before we head out to the holiday break. I wish all of our students and families a wonderful holiday season full of love, laughter and new memories.
Happy Holidays,
Ms. Peterson

Do you know what's in your child's backpack?
We urge our Rabbit Creek families to take time over the break to clean out backpacks of toys and items that are distracting at school, both of your own child and their peers. Teachers will be helping students clean out desks and these will be in backpacks ready to be taken out. Thank you for your help!!
The following items should not be brought to school.
- Toys of any type to include: trading cards (Pokemon, Yugi-oh, etc.), "stuffies", small dolls or cars or Pop-its. There should be no Pokemon items at school in general.
- School supplies that are not on the list provided by teachers earlier in the school year. Students do not need bags of extra crayons or colored pencils, multiple pairs of scissors, special pencils, or such. Many of our classrooms do not have students bringing markers so please check with the teacher before sending them.
- We use notebooks and paper for school that are letter sized and requested by teachers. Please help your child keep mini journals, coloring pages and other such items at home.
A HUGE Shout Out to our Rabbit Creek Snow Supports!
Over the weekend the snow out piled up and made for difficult times for families and students at arrival and dismissal on Tuesday. A few of our tremendous family members came and plowed/shoveled the front sidewalk area, making this area much safer for everyone involved! I've tried to sleuth and determine who these snow 'angels' were without luck, but want to be sure to recognize their time and dedication to our school!
PS-Mr. Short got a new snowblower! :)
Roscoe's Safety Tips:
- Please make sure your child(ren) has their "5 Points of Winter Gear" daily-Hat, Gloves, Coat, Snowpants and Boots! Recess is 30 minutes long and it gets cold out there without the right gear! Plus, clothes and shoes get wet and make the afternoons miserable for students.
- Our driveway and parking lots are School Zones and cars need to go slow to maintain a safe place for all students and families! The speed limit in our parking lot is 5 mph at all times.
- All student drop off needs to take place at the front of the school to enable the students to have supervision by staff.
Rabbit Creek Open Positions
Our school is currently looking for a paraprofessional to join our self contained Special Education program. This position is 6.5 hours a day and offers benefits as well. The hired candidate would be working with some of our amazing children at Rabbit Creek and are guaranteed to bring smiles daily. If you're interested, please apply on the ASD website for job #11881.
We are also in need of additional adults to supervise our playground for recess. Depending on the time of day, we need 2-4 supervisors outside to ensure student safety and fun. This position is listed on the ASD website as a temporary position (#12644) under the title of South High Area: School Based Temporary at South High Area Temporaries. We would love to have you join for a day a week, two days or as many as you are available! Thank you in advance for considering!
