New Headteacher Appointed
Dear Parents and Carers
After two days of rigorous interviews, the governors are able to tell you that we have appointed Mr Steven Holmes as our new headteacher. He has, in the past, been headteacher of a highly successful primary school but is currently a senior education adviser with North Yorkshire County Council. We are yet to establish a start date for him as he must serve notice in his current post but I will let you know as soon as this has been worked out.
We are certain that Mr Holmes will build on the excellent work Mr Dudman has done and take us forward in our education journey ensuring that the love, which surrounds our Cathedral School family, continues to flourish.
The governors have at all times throughout the appointment process been mindful of our school vision:
“Pursuing excellence surrounded by faith and love”
and are convinced Mr Holmes will lead us in this.
Best wishes
Jean Denney
Chair of Governors
Summer Exhibition
Due to the busy nature of the summer term it has not been possible to arrange for a single summer exhibition for the whole school. As a result, classes have organised their own exhibition of work on differing dates and times. The children would like to share with you the end products of their real projects.
Please see below for dates and venues:
Year One: Wednesday 18th July - 9am - Chapel
Year Two: Thursday 12th July - 10am-2pm - Ripon Market
Year Three: Thursday 12th July - 10am-2pm - Ripon Market
Year Four: Thursday 12th July - 2.15pm- Chapel
Year Five: Thursday 12th July - 2.30pm- Classroom
Year Six: Thursday 12th July - 9am- School Hall
Further details will be coming out on Monday but please put these dates in your diary.
Staffing Arrangements: September 2018
Class teacher organisation from Reception to Year Three will remain unchanged next year. Mrs McCormick will be the non-teaching deputy, and we welcome new teachers as follows:
Reception: Mrs Binks
Year One: Mrs Spencer/ Mrs Hazelwood
Year Two: Mrs Beckett
Year Three: Miss Stocks
Year Four: Mrs McIlmurray, who joins us from Flanshawe School in Wakefield
Year Five: Miss Heslop, coming from Herringthorpe Infant school in Rotherham
Year Six: Mrs Moore, who has 14 years of teaching experience in the North East and overseas.
Planning for the holidays
Thank you to everyone who has already answered our questionnaire. The form is below and will take less than five minutes to complete. We are interested in everyone's views, not just parents of children who already attend Oscar's.
Planning is already under way for the summer holidays and we have started to include some of the ideas from the survey (sorry, other suggestions may have to wait until the new school year!).
MESSAGE FROM THE FRIENDS
A Massive Thank You!
We had a fabulous fair on Saturday. The weather was perfect, the performances spectacular, the bouncy castle was very popular and the bar sold out - not to mention the array of games, crafts, competition entries ... sports, models, fire pit, stalls ... the list goes on!
All this would not have been possible without the huge support from all the school community. Thank you to all the helpers who prepared stalls, set up and donated. Also thanks to all who manned a stall for the fair and stayed to help clear up.
We are amazed and delighted by the amount raised....
AND NOW FOR THE GRAND TOTAL .... (drum roll please!) .... £1,918
Bag2School: Clear out your old clothes and more. Charity bags and information were sent out earlier this week. Collection on Thursday 5th July 9am.
Disco Dancing: Our last disco of the school year will be on Friday 6th July, more details to follow.
End of Year Social: Details to be confirmed, but we'd like to invite all parents to join us for an end of year social gathering (possibly in a pub beer garden!).
