Principal's Update to Parents
October 5, 2020
Dear Ector College Prep Families,
We have had a really good start to this school year, especially considering the COVID environment that we must work in. Safety of our students, teachers and families has been and continues to be our number 1 priority. We continue to ensure that teachers, students and staff wear face coverings, distance themselves, wash hands and use hand sanitizer.
We also must continue to have high expectations for learning and will continue to have them. Although I understand that instruction and learning are different in this environment, we must keep the rigor of instruction high to ensure that your child will be successful. We will continue to work through virtual issues and do the best that we (teachers, administrators and staff) can to give your child the best education possible.
There is much information in this letter, so please read it carefully. For parents that need this letter translated to Spanish, there is an option under Accessibility to do this. On the right side of the newsletter, a bar will appear with the ADA and Translation features. You will be able to translate your newsletter to your desired language there.
This newsletter will be sent via email, Facebook, and be available as a link on our website. The Facebook and website links are listed at the very end of the newsletter.
I will continue to serve your child and developing a partnership with each of you. If you ever have any questions or concerns, you may call or email me at anytime. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Mitch Gerig
Principal
Change in Mode of Learning
We recognize that changing circumstances may result in a need to modify your child’s mode of learning. We want to ensure that every student is able to attend school in their chosen learning environment.

Schoology
I know that this new learning has been difficult for you, as a parent, and your child. The following is a link to a Schoology "How To" video made by one of our teachers, Ms. Avery. Please review this to help you and your child access and use Schoology.
Assignments, Grades and Attendance
It is very important that your child logs into Schoology each day at the scheduled class period and complete his/her assignments. Logging in and working on assignments each day counts as being present for attendance purposes. If your child does not log in and make progress, he/she will be counted absent.
Completion of Assignments
Teachers have reported that there are many students that are not completing assignments. If a student does not complete an assignment, it is recorded in Gradebook as an M, for missing. This assignment will be averaged as a zero until the assignment is completed. This will affect your child's grade. If your child is struggling, please contact your child's teacher by phone, email and/or through Schoology.
Report Cards
Devices
If your child does not have a device, and is working remotely from home, please contact the school at 432-456-0479 to make arrangements to pick one up.
Safety in Classrooms
Student desks are positioned 6 feet apart.
Students are required to wear face covering in the classroom, while transitioning and at anytime during the school day.
Teachers are required to wear masks (And shields when around students) and socially distance as much as possible from students.
Students are to wash hands frequently throughout the day and before lunch
