Field Meet 2019
Our 2018-2019 school year concluded with our annual Field Meet. Every platoon and their cadets battled it our in a series of athletic events including tug-of-war, lava boards, relay races, and an obstacle course. Cadets also competed in a drill exhibition. To finish off the day, cadets participated in a water balloon fight and Major Boyd and Chief Harris hosted a cookout for all cadets.
Naval Academy Summer Seminar
"My experience at the Naval Academy Summer Seminar was very enlightening. I got to learn a variety of new things and experience a lifestyle that I have never been used to before and I loved it. I got to meet so many new people and learn from midshipmen about values of the Navy. Overall, the experience was great and something I would love to do in the future."

I had the honor of going to both the Naval Academy's Summer Seminar and the Area 6 Leadership Academy. The Naval Academy allowed me to experience the lifestyle of a Midshipman at USNA by attending workshops, physical training, and learning about values and leadership through experience. Leadership Academy at the Citadel introduced me to leadership skills and practices that I can use as a Commanding Officer. Being able to interact with cadets from different units and schools really exposed me to new practices and habits I can develop to improve my leadership. The leadership at both USNA and the Citadel has really developed me morally. mentally, and physically and their dedication to all of the cadets really showed what it means to be a leader. I hope to attend the Naval Academy and carry on the passion for excellence my instructors and midshipman shared with me this summer

Leadership Training allowed me to understand the purpose of NJROTC by stressing the importance of moral character and discipline. Over those few days, I was able to work with and learn from some of the most outstanding cadets I have ever met. Instructors with all different background were able to help me better understand what I wanted out of NJROTC and what the Armed Forces have to offer. On top of all the leadership and team-building exercises we all participated in, we took on morning physical training and platoon drill competition. By far, leadership training was the most informative and helpful NJROTC experience I have ever had.

Leadership Camp
July 8th- 11th, our senior class and their chiefs attended Leadership Camp at Fort Jackson. On the first day, all cadets learned the basics of camping outdoors, land navigation, hygiene, first aid, and safety. Their skills were put to the test when they spend their first night outdoors in the Dreher courtyard. The second day started bright and early as the cadets made their way to Fort Jackson. Their first event was a team building exercise. This tested the cadets ability to work together to get through a series of obstacles. That evening, cadets pitched their tents on a bivioc site and got some rest for the next day. Their last day at Fort Jackson started off with a land navigation class and course. Cadets were partnered and navigated through an actual course that the army recruits use during their basic training. The "fit-to-win" course was the highlight of our camp experience. Cadets challenged themselves mentally and physically to get through a series of obstacles including a barb-wire sand trench, climbing over walls, and climbing a rope ladder. Following the course, the cadets and instructors heading back to Dreher to clean, check maintenance and have a final dinner to celebrate their accomplishments during the week.
Freshmen Orientation
On August 5th- 8th, upcoming freshmen endured their first experience with the NJROTC program. During this 4 day long adventure, cadets learned the Navy core values, customs and courtesies, scholarship opportunities, and basic navy knowledge. They also participated in basic drill and physical training. Each lesson was taught by the Primary staff and their chiefs. On the final day, all cadets and instructors participated in Adopt-A-Street. This community service event is intended to keep Devine street and the community around Dreher clean and presentable. All cadets who passed their promotion test were promoted from Seaman Recruit to Seaman Apprentice on August 8th in front of their friends and family. They will be ahead of the rest of their class at the beginning of the school year. We can't wait to start the 2019-2020 year off strong.
