Falcon Family Flyer Week of 10/3/22
2022-2023
A Message From Mrs. Lopez
Good Evening Falcon Families!
It was a pleasure seeing some of you at our PTA meeting last Thursday. We have another opportunity to see you at our first Parent Coffee of the school year on Tuesday in the cafeteria @7:45am. Please come out to hear some great information about bullying prevention. Hope to see you there!
Please help your child to remember to charge their chromebooks at night before coming to school the next day. We have a few chromebook loaners and there are activities throughout the day that will require their chromebooks. Thank you for your help in this matter.
Transportation Updates
In an effort to improve transportation services for all schools and ensure timely arrivals and departures each day, as well as to expand our ability to support field trips, as we do each Fall, the Transportation Division reviews bus ridership during the first 30 days of school. Our families/guardians may have noticed small adjustments to times as new students have been added to routes or routes have been adjusted to improve student arrivals. When adjustments are made, new bus stop times are posted in ParentVue and are accessible through the Stopfinder App (find information at lcps.org/Stopfinder).
If an established bus stop is not used for 15 days during the first 30 days of school, parents/guardians are notified that the stop will be removed from a route (in accordance with Policy 6210.) Over the next 2 weeks, the Transportation Division staff will review unused stops and begin to adjust routes. We encourage parents/guardians to check ParentVue or Stopfinder for the most up-to-date information.
Students and families who wish to resume bus transportation can go into ParentVue and select Opt-In for LCPS Transportation and their student will be added to a route and the bus stop reestablished.
Transportation route adjustments will be finalized by mid-October. Families will receive a reminder on or about October 15 to check ParentVue or Stopfinder for any changes to their route times. Schools will also be provided with new bus information as changes are made.
Lastly, transportation staff is actively working with Stopfinder to improve access and user experience. If your students or families experience issues with the Stopfinder App, please have them contact the Transportation Division at StopfinderLoudoun@lcps.org.
Together, may we give our children the roots to grow and the wings to fly. Thank you for your partnership and have a wonderful week.
In service with you,
Rhonda Lopez
Score/Report Notification
MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) score reports and assessment results for Reading and/or Math tests for students in grades 1-5 will be available on Friday, Oct. 7th in ParentVUE.
- The Test History tab will show your student’s national percentile rank, which is the percentage of students across the United States, in the same grade, that had a MAP score less than or equal to your student's score. For example, a third-grade student with a national percentile rank of 49 has a MAP Growth score that is equal to or higher than 49% of all third graders nationally who took MAP within the same time period.
- The Documents tab will show your student’s Student Progress Report, which breaks down their instructional readiness score into skill subgroup scores and shows their growth across the current school year.
- If you have questions regarding MAP test(s), please contact your student’s teacher and/or visit the LCPS MAP website at: https://www.lcps.org/Page/217792
VGA (Virginia Growth Assessments) score reports for students in grades 3-5 will be available in ParentVUE on Oct. 21st.
- Scores can be found in the Test History tab of ParentVUE and a detailed score report can be found in the Documents tab of ParentVUE.
- Student Detail By Question (SDBQ) score reports show the academic standards on which the student was assessed and whether the test item was answered correctly, without assigning a passing or failing score.
If you have questions about the Growth Assessments, please visit the LCPS Assessment Services webpage and/or contact Brittney Bryan at brittney.bryan@lcps.org.
Helpful Tips from Counselors
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” “A stitch in time saves nine.” These sayings are familiar to many people, but how many of us have ever thought about how we could prevent a big problem like bullying or how our individual efforts could make a difference? Have you ever wondered what changes would need to occur in our daily lives to prevent bullying or reduce the chance that it will happen? If we only think or act when bullying is already happening, we are then solely focused on intervention and we may never see the end of this behavior. Promoting and modeling positive social behaviors before negative outcomes like bullying occur is a good way to create safer, healthier schools and communities for all children. October 4th - Parent Coffee Session!
-8:00-8:30am in the cafeteria
Forest Grove is a PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) school. We focus on 3 pillars: being respectful, responsible and champions. We also use DOJO where students and classes can earn points, for being respectful, responsible and champions! DOJO is also another great way to communicate with your child's teacher so make sure you have joined! Check with your child to see if their class has earned the GOLDEN SPATULA yet for positive behavior in the cafeteria.
If you are interested in being a representative and can attend our monthly school PBIS meetings, please let us know!
