Annual Family Check In (AFC) - Mandatory for all students!
The Weld RE-4 School District uses our annual family check in to verify student information. Annual Family Check In (AFC) is a mandatory process that ALL parents will need to complete annually.
Note: we can not start building your child’s schedule for the year until this has been completed. Please complete your AFC as soon as possible!
Parents are now able to verify and update the following 2020-2021 school year information online:
Census & Household information
Emergency Contacts
Code of Conduct
Technology approval (6th grade)
Publication Consent
Immunizations (6th grade)

Parents may update AFC now by logging into the Portal and navigate to either of the highlighted areas pictured below.
Swim Update (sent to parents 7/28)
Please see the below correspondence from Coach Moon:
Hi Everyone,
We wanted to give you an update about our Swim Camp and Swim & Dive Season. Please see the information below, and check out our website at wms.weldre4.org/athletics/swimming for more information about the season.
Preseason Camp
Unfortunately due to ongoing warranty work being done to the pool, we will be unable to hold a preseason swim camp this year. We will continue to monitor the timeline of work, but we expect to start our regular season as scheduled on Monday, August 10th.
Tryouts
As we indicated in our email last week, we will be limiting the team size to support increased social distancing. Tryouts will be held on Monday, August 10 and Tuesday, August 11. Swim tryouts will be held from 6:45-8:00 AM, and dive tryouts will be 5:25-6:15 PM. (These will be regular practice times for the season) If your student is interested in trying out for the team, please keep an eye out for an email next week about registering for tryouts. We may need to split times and groups of kids in order to adhere to social distancing guidelines.
Physicals & Registrations
Just a reminder that Sports Physicals and a $75.00 Registration fee is due to the WMS front office no later than the end of the day on Tuesday, August 11th.
COVID-19 Updates
Given the district’s hybrid learning announcement earlier today, we wanted to provide some additional information about our current plans for the season. The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has classified individual swimming as a low risk sport while relays are categorized as a moderate risk. While we are optimistically awaiting additional information from state and local officials, our current plans are as follows:
Swimmers and divers will attend practice daily, regardless of which neighborhood group they belong to
Students participating in off-campus learning will shower and change at home for that day to reduce locker room crowding
Athletes must wear a face covering upon arrival and until they enter the water
After exiting the pool, athletes must wear a mask at all times except for while showering
We’re excited for the 2020 middle school swimming & diving season, and hope you share our enthusiasm! Please continue to watch your email, as we will update you if/when plans change.
See you at the pool!
Coach Heather Moon
Band Recommendations
Dear Band Families,
We’ve received the go-ahead for band this year! With that said, there are some things that need to be required in order to mitigate the risks of aerosolization.
I’m basing these requirements on research that was done by CU and the NFHS and the University of Maryland. Here is a link to that research if you’re so inclined. https://www.nfhs.org/articles/unprecedented-international-coalition-led-by-performing-arts-organizations-to-commission-covid-19-study/
Wind instrument bells need to be masked. Here is a DIY video on the subject https://youtu.be/DoaarM_CHcU
Here’s another link which covers a wide range of masks for musicians and instruments you can make on your own. http://www.unitedsound.org/mask
Here’s a place to purchase instrument masks https://fjminc.com/pages/face-bell-covers
We may spend some in class time making bell covers as well.
The recommendations also include the use of fold-over masks for an additional level of protection. Those can be made with the instructions in this link http://www.unitedsound.org/mask I have yet to find a place to purchase a mask like this, but feel free to explore options. Normal masks can be used so long as they are replaced any time we don’t have the instruments on our faces.
Flute proved to be safer than thought in the study. Apparently, the moisture needs a vibrating surface to become an aerosol, and flutes create their sound in an entirely different way. However, I have seen flautists using drop-down face shields to contain their air and this device https://win-d-fender.com/ is also available.
Brass players need to have a Tupperware container for emptying their spit valves. The study recommends puppy pads, but some form of Lysol wipe will be more effective at disinfecting. If you wish to donate Lysol wipes to the band program, that would be awesome.
Percussionists need to keep track of their own equipment and not share anything without sanitizing it. I will be wiping shared instruments down (Bass drum, timpani) between uses and wipes will be available for mallets. Students should mark their own sticks with a sharpie since many of us will have the same brand and we don’t want to get confused.
Please email me if you have any questions or concerns. I am very excited to make music again!
