BE THE CHANGE . . . SUHSD students are the change
Jose Guaro (SUHi 12th grade student)
Jose Guaro received Elks Lodge Teenager of the month scholarship for his ties and commitment to El Toyon Elementary School in teaching students computer coding. Jose teaches 4th-6th grade students programming on Fridays.
"Coding is such a great skill to have, even if one were not to pursue any sort of computational field,... Kids are often dissatisfied with their schooling either because they think the lessons being taught have no benefit, or they are not compelled or intellectually stimulated, or both. With coding - and this can be applied to any subject - the math one learns is combined with the grammar they had to practice" -Jose Guaro-
Antoine Serrano (SUHi 11th grade student)
Antoine was just awarded a full ride for the rigorous Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Program (Cost: $6300). He is an extremely hard-working student who has a true passion for learning. He currently is the Robotics Club president, and a nominee for the AVID 11th Grade Lamp of Learning Scholarship (worth $20,000).
This will be his 3rd summer program. In 9th grade he participated in the Upward Bound Summer Bridge program. Last year he was given a full-ride to attend the UCSD COSMOS Program, and now, STANFORD!
