Red Ribbon Week is Next Week
Next week will be Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week serves as an opportunity for communities and individuals to take a stand for the hopes and dreams of our children through a commitment to drug prevention and education and a personal commitment to live drug free, healthy lives. We will be celebrating Red Ribbon Week with a series of dress-up days as described below.
Monday, October 28-Pirates are Winners and Winners don't do drugs - Wear your favorite team shirt or jersey because you pirates are winners
Tuesday, October 29-Pirates Give Drugs the Boot- Wear your favorite boots because pirates stomp out drugs
Wednesday, October 30-Pirates are Super-Dress as your favorite super hero to show that pirates are so super that we don't need drugs
Thursday, October 31- Pirates United Day- Wear red, white and black (IHES colors) to show we are united in our fight to be drug free. This will also serve as the day to have our Red Ribbon Week games for our 4th and 5th graders
Friday, November 1-Pirates Have Big Dreams-Dress as your future career because pirates futures are so bright that we don't need drugs
In addition, redribbonweek.org is having a nationwide contest that could benefit our school if one of our families wins. Please read the following for details
Your school can win $1,000 for drug prevention AND your students' families can win an iPad for their home in the 2013 National Red Ribbon Photo Contest! The entry period is from now to November 4, 2013.
Studies show that parents who talk to their children about the dangers of drug abuse are less at risk, and that's what this contest aims for: to encourage families across America to discuss prevention.
Red Ribbon Week is about making the "be drug-free" message visible. Please help by forwarding this information to parents, teachers, students, and community leaders ... we hope a family and school from your community wins this year!
Here's how the contest works:
- Students (K-12) work with their family to decorate their home front door, mailbox or fence with a red ribbon and this year's theme: A Healthy Me is Drug Free
- Participants upload a picture of the decorations to the Red Ribbon website between October 1st and November 4th and encourage friends, family, and colleagues to vote (November 5-19th).
