Year 5 & 6 Camp Ruakawa

9 November 2021

Kia ora Year 5 and 6 whānau

Camp is almost here!

  • Due to the Covid-19 Public Health Response (Vaccinations) Order 2021 regulations for the staff members of Camp Raukawa, camp is now only for three days and two nights. The discounted price for camp is now $130. Mrs Royds will be in touch shortly with information around refunds etc.

  • On Monday 15th November, all learners attending camp are required to bring in their gear bag with all their gear inside it for a gear check prior to camp. Their gear will then remain at St James’ overnight, ready to go on the bus on Tuesday 16th November.

  • The bus for camp will be leaving St James’ on Tuesday 16th November at 8:30am on the dot. Please ensure your child/ren are here at 8:00am on that day for preparation and briefing.

  • We will leave Camp Raukawa on Thursday 18th November at 12:00pm, to arrive back at St James’ before the end of the school day.

  • A parent volunteer will be driving to camp to ensure that we have access to an emergency vehicle for the duration of camp.

  • Camp Raukawa has a landline phone, so if we need to contact any parents we are able to do so.

  • A reminder that lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea on Tuesday are not provided by camp, so you will need to ensure that in your child/rens backpack/school bag for the bus they have a full lunch box.

  • Your child/ren will need to have a backpack/school bag for the bus - in this should be a full lunch box, a drink bottle full of water, a sunhat, sunscreen, a jersey/sweatshirt, a book or drawing or a quiet board game for use on the bus.

  • Any medications that are coming with your child to camp will need to be passed to Mrs Cawood upon arrival at school at 8:00am on Tuesday 16th November.

  • Your child/ren may bring books, colouring or age appropriate games (board games) with them to camp for use in free time. NO ELECTRONICS OR LOLLIES TO COME TO CAMP PLEASE (Electronics includes smart watches, cell phones, ipads and kindles).

  • Please ensure that you use the gear list as your guide when packing - pillows and sleeping bags often get forgotten, so maybe put these at the top of your list!

  • Old clothes should be worn to camp, and packed for camp, please do not pack any good/special clothes. These will no doubt get both wet and dirty!!

  • Togs and towels can be packed - as togs may like to be worn by your child/ren when kayaking.

  • Sleeping toys/soft toys to help with sleeping away from home are allowed.

  • Baking (nut free) in a named container can be brought in on Tuesday 16th November and given to adults who will pack this separately for camp.

  • All camp Raukawa staff, bus drivers and adults coming with St James’ are vaccinated as per the current Covid-19 vaccination mandate.

Thank you again for your ongoing support.

God bless

Andrea Cawood -
