Writing, Science, & Spelling
This week, we will be combining our Writing with our Science. The students will be researching an animal that is not currently at the Kansas City Zoo. They will read to discover the animal's habitat, its diet, the plant & water features within its habitat, and the adaptations/defense mechanisms it uses to survive. Monday, the students will create questions to help guide their research on their animal. Tuesday, we will color code our headings, so as the students are taking notes they can color code which chapter each note goes in. Next, the students will be introduced to several sites that they can read & take notes from. I will model the note-taking process for the students, and then they'll be given time to do their own note-taking. Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday, the students will be using the sites to read & take notes. Friday, the students will read through the notes that they took on their animal's habitat and arrange them in a logical sequence. I will model for them what to include in their summary paragraph - main idea, 5 facts, & closing sentence.
During our Spelling time, we will cover single syllable homophones, categorizing words, and using context clues.
