Welcome to KB!
Semester 1 Class Newsletter
A message from Miss Brady
Wow, I cannot believe that two whole terms have passed by already! I am so proud of KB especially with all of the hard work each student is putting into their learning and how they are such wonderful, caring class members. Each student has made excellent progress and just love being at school. We have had a busy semester with all students settling well into school life. We also went on our first excursion and have learnt to read, write and understand numbers! All KB are excellent friends who support and encourage each other to do their best.
Day 1 of Kindergarten
Look at all of these excited faces! It was a big day for everyone and the beginning of an excellent year!
The Farm
In Term 2 all of Kindergarten attended an excursion to Calmsley Hill City Farm. We saw all of the animals while our guide shared lots of interesting information. We rode on a tractor seeing the dam and some sheep in the paddock. Patting the baby animals showed us how little the animals could really be. Lisia demonstrated her whip cracking skills with one of the farmers. Everyone also milked a cow one at a time. All students had a wonderful day and learnt many new things.
Our First Assembly
In Term 2 KB hosted their first assembly. Thank you to all of the parents who came to watch. The students had been practising all week speaking, dancing and singing. I was so amazed at the confidence that KB showed, speaking so well and were fantastic singing 'If you're happy and you know it'. We look forward to hosting assembly again later in the year.
Easter Hat Parade
Some very impressive hats made their way to KB for the 2019 Easter Hat parade. Lots of different designs were made both at home and at school. Thank you to the parents and 5/6C for ensuring that our hats were all completed. We also received some special surprises from the Easter bunny when we went back to our classroom.
Buddy Reading with 5/6C
5/6C come and visit us every Thursday. They have been wonderful buddies and are so helpful with our reading and practising our sight words with us every week. KB love having an older buddy that they can play with and say hello to in the playground. Thank you to 5/6C and Miss Tran for being amazing role models.
Healthy Harold
It was wonderful visiting Healthy Harold to learn about how we can keep our bodies healthy. We learnt about healthy foods and drinks, how we need to exercise to keep our muscles strong and we talked about safe decisions. Some of these safe decisions included what to do when we are crossing the road, when we are swimming in the ocean, when we riding our bikes or scooters and how to be safe in the kitchen when our parents are cooking. All of KB also met Harold and cannot wait to go back again!
English
KB have been working very hard during English to learn how to read, write and be excellent speakers and listeners. During L3 (Language, Learning and Literacy) students have been involved in explicit guided reading as well as lots of independent tasks and a play centre. This play centre helps students to talk to their classmates and have good conversations. I am very proud of how KB's writing has improved throughout the year and I am excited to see how the rest of the year goes!
Mathematics
During Mathematics this semester, KB have been building their knowledge about numbers as well as using this understanding in real life problem solving tasks. We have also looked at 2D shapes, time, collecting data, position and area. We have very sweaty brains in KB and can't wait to show you what we have learnt.
AFL Clinc
In Term 1 we were lucky enough to have the Greater Western Sydney Giants visit Fairvale. Students participated in lots of games that taught them the many skills of AFL. We practised kicking, catching and throwing. This was a day filled with lots of fun!
NRL Clinic
In Term 2 Marshal, the Game Development Officer from the Parramatta Eels, visited Fairvale delivering clinics for the whole school. Marshal worked with the students developing their ball skills to hold, catch and pass a football. Students showed their awesome skills and had a wonderful time. We look forward to seeing Marshal again.
