Ms. Cotromanes's 2nd Grade 2015-2016

A Message from Ms. Cotromanes......

Dear Parents,

April has arrived and I hope everyone had a wonderful Spring Break. It was a pleasure seeing families again for Parent-Teacher Conferences. Thank you to those parents who met with me. It's always great to communicate how well your child is doing in school as well as discuss any concerns.

This is a wonderful time of year for me, because I can see so much progress with my students. They can do so much more than what they did at the beginning of the school year. They work hard each day and I am proud of all they have accomplished. I know you are too.

Please keep a look out for information about an upcoming field trip to see Cinderella on May 5. I am sending home the flyer with all the information today. The cost is $10 and students need to bring a bag lunch to school.

Also, we will be starting our walks to school on Fridays. Our class has the Golden Shoe Trophy (pictured below) and would LOVE to keep it. If we have most of our students walk to school on Fridays, we can keep our trophy. We are asking for 100% participation from our class on Fridays please!

All the best,

Ms. Cotromanes

We have won the Golden Shoe trophy for walking on Fridays!!!

Please remember.......

STUDENTS SHOULD BE READING 30 MINUTES (TWO STEPS) EACH NIGHT FOR HOMEWORK AND HAVE THEIR READING LOGS SIGNED. Thank you for your support in helping them become strong readers.

Also, please check homework folders for assignments.

Math

The students have been learning about fact families for addition and subtraction. They also have practiced learning how to mentally add and subtract by 10's and 100's. We are quickly approaching multiplication in which the students are excited. I suggest making or purchasing multiplication flash cards for your child, so they can begin practicing.

100 Book Challenge

Students have been working hard on their reading stamina as well as reading their 100 Book Challenge books. MANY students have already received medals for their steps. One of the students in our class just reached 500 steps! Ask your child what step they are on and please continue the wonderful reading that is happening at home.

Writing

Students have been working on letter writing. They have mastered the format for how to write a friendly letter. Students wrote opinion letters to our principal, Mr. Roberson, stating why they feel Apollo should bring back snack time.

We will continue to work on using capitalization, punctuation and use exciting adjectives in our writing.

Does your child have neat, legible handwriting? Ask to see some of their work and you be the judge.

Behavior in the classroom

Our classroom has had difficulty being peaceful. We have an all school voice level system from 0 to 4, level 0 being silent and level 4 being an outside voice. Our class is still working on how to be silent during independent working times and when I am teaching a lesson. As an incentive, students can earn a PEACE reward towards a picnic lunch in the classroom. Ask your child if they have been peaceful at school and what the incentive entails.
