Friday Notes
Joan MacQueen Middle School
New Assistant Principal
Dear Boulder Oaks and Joan MacQueen Parents,
We are excited to announce that a new assistant principal has been selected to serve at both Joan MacQueen and Boulder Oaks in the upcoming school year.
Rebecca Sanders comes to Alpine Schools from Poway Unified were she was teaching middle school mathematics. Previously, Ms. Sanders taught at Gompers Preparatory Academy and at Albert Einstein Academy and was head of the Prime Time program, a before school and after school care program for elementary school children at Green Elementary School.
Ms. Sanders is a San Diego native who grew up just down the street from the old Joan MacQueen school site in Harbison Canyon. She attended Joan MacQueen Middle School and was in the second graduating class of Steele Canyon High School. After high school, she attended San Diego State University where she received her Bachelors in Economics. Her love for learning and working with students, led her to get her teaching credential and Masters in Secondary Math Education from the University of Phoenix.
She has been teaching mathematics for the past six years where she gained experiences in restorative practices, growth mindset, and creating collaborative learning environments. Her passion for her students and their education is what helped her make the decision to get her Administrative Services Credential from San Diego State with an emphasis in equity driven leadership.
Ms. Sanders believes that every student has the right to learn in a positive environment where their well being is just as important in their educational experiences as their academics. She has always envisioned herself as a leader and coach where she could infuse her passion in a team that also believed in building relationships, creating an inclusive campus, and leading with a strong culture as a foundation.
She is currently getting ready to move to San Carlos with her fiance and two cats and she is looking forward to this new opportunity and lasting relationships that will be built over the years to come.
Please join us in welcoming Ms. Sanders to Alpine Union.
Sincerely,
Casey Currigan, Principal JMMS and Jenna Weinert, Principal BOES
