ST. BALDRICK'S SUPPORT
Jackson Local students and staff came together and raised nearly $90,000 for the annual St. Baldrick's fundraiser, which supports childhood cancer research. Together with our rivals from North Canton City Schools, the two districts combined to raise about $170,000.
At Sunday's Brave the Shave event, Superintendent Chris DiLoreto had his head shaved by Jackson students and cousins Will Lenhart and Charlie Wahl. They raised the most money out of any Jackson Local student this year for St. Baldrick's. They have been participating in St. Baldrick’s since 2016 and have raised more than $37,000. This year, they raised more than $5,500. Mr. DiLoreto was joined by North Canton Assistant Superintendent Dave Pilati and together the two school districts raised about $170,000 toward our region's $250,000. Thank you Polar Bears and VIkings!

BOYS VOLLEYBALL STARTS SPRING SEASON WITH WIN
The Jackson Polar Bear Boys Volleyball team kicked off the new season with a decisive win against Division I rival Medina Bees on Friday night (25-12, 25-16, 25-12). There was a lot of excitement and buzz in the gym and Jackson used that energy to jump out early and never looked back. Led by Seniors Meyerhoff, Nosky, and Fisher, the team pounced early to a 7-1 lead in the first set and that set the tone for the rest of the match.
The 2023 Bears Varsity team has a really nice mix of players this year with 5 Seniors, 4 Juniors, 2 Sophomores, and 1 Freshman. Even though there are so many different players from different classes, the team seems like they are gelling together very well and running a good offensive scheme. Head Coach Richard Jackson said, “We are very excited about our team this year. We had a little concern about turning over our highly potent offensive team to first year Freshman setter Austin Earlenbaugh, but our upper classman are very pumped about his ability and our opportunities. Tonight was just a small taste of what we are capable of and we will continue to build upon our early success.”
The Polar Bear Statistics leaders were:
Assists: Earlenbaugh – 29
Kills: Meyerhoff – 16
Blocks: Pemberton – 3
Digs: Le – 2
Service Points: Nosky – 13
Service Aces: Nosky – 5

MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES TO HELP
The Jackson Local School District started an initiative this school year to share resources and tips with our parents. We are providing more resources from our district mental health partners. We hope you find value in these resources from our mental health experts.
STARKHELPCENTRAL.COM FROM UNITED WAY
United Way of Greater Stark County is pleased to join the partnership that supports StarkHelpCentral.com, a searchable community resource website supported by Stark County Mental Health & Addiction Recovery (StarkMHAR), Stark County Job & Family Services, Stark Educational Service Center, Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities and Stark County Family Court, and Stark County Family Council.
With this partnership, Stark County 2-1-1 will close its 2-1-1 information line and online database. This move will establish StarkHelpCentral.com as the primary source of information about community resources in Stark County.
Attached to this email is a brief guide that provides contact information for the most requested programs and services in our community. This resource guide will be direct mailed to residents of ZIP codes where most of 211’s calls originate. This will happen by the end of November.

JACKSON LOCAL SEEKS TO SERVE CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES
Within the intent of the federal statutes (Rehabilitation Act of 1973-section 504 and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act IDEA-public law 105-17), the Jackson Local School District continues its effort to locate and identify children with disabilities from birth through age 21. Children with disabilities have physical, emotional, and or mental impairments that may require special education. Public schools provide free and appropriate education regardless of a child’s disability. However, before these children can be served, they must be found. Many of these children are not visible because they may not function in the community’s mainstream, and many are preschoolers. Parents may not realize that programs and services are available through their school district or from agencies in their community. If you are aware of a child who may need a special education program or services, contact Kathy Brand, Jackson Local School District’s Special Programs Director with any question you may have regarding the above notice at 330-830-8006.
