Supporting our Children with Reading and Writing
For over 25 years, STEVI QUATE taught middle and high school students. Currently, she works with schools on topics ranging from best practices in reading and writing, standards-based curriculum, collaboration, and motivation/engagement. She consults with schools throughout the US and internationally in Indonesia, Taiwan, Thailand, Colombia, and China. Ms Quate has been the state literacy coordinator at the Colorado Department of Education and a faculty member of the School of Education at the University of Colorado at Denver (UCD) where she initiated the Secondary Literacy Network. She was president of both the state affiliates for the National Council of Teachers of English and the International Reading Association. For ten years she directed Colorado Writing Project and continues to co-direct Colorado Critical Friends Group. She has written articles for many publications including a chapter on Critical Friends Groups in Powerful Designs for Professional Learning. Her first book, written with John McDermott, Clock Watchers: Six Steps for Motivating and Engaging the Disengaged Across Content Areas, was published in 2009 by Heinemann. The Just-Right Challenge, her second book also co-written with John McDermott, will be published in August 2013.
