Message From Central Road School

Mrs. Joanna Shostachuk, School Principal

A Note from Mrs. Shostachuk 12/12/2021

Dear Central Road Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the middle of December! This week it felt like winter with the colder temperatures! We continued to be hard at work with both academic and social emotional learning. We too enjoyed hosting our Central Road Spelling Bee and we are very proud of our participants.

Thank you for taking the time to read our weekly communication. We are happy to connect together as a strong home-school connection is truly the key to success! As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

Kindest Regards,

Joanna Shostachuk

D15 Inclement Weather Plan

As the weather begins to become colder, we are writing to share District 15’s 2021-22 inclement weather plan with you. After much discussion, in the event we have significant inclement weather creating unsafe travel conditions or due to extreme cold, we will be utilizing an emergency weather day(s) which we have already built into the school calendar instead of shifting to virtual learning. Please visit the Emergency School Closure/Inclement Weather page of our website.
Should we need to call an emergency/inclement weather day due to hazardous weather conditions, we will notify families through email, text message, and phone calls via our Blackboard Communication system. The information will also be posted on our District and school websites, Facebook, Twitter, as well as the CCSD15 mobile app. Please be aware that if District 15 is closed for in-person learning due to inclement weather, unfortunately, we will not be offering meal deliveries.

Bounce Back Intervention Program Information

Bounce Back is an intervention for elementary school children exposed to stressful and traumatic events developed by Dr. Audra Langley, PhD, from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and associates. The goal of the intervention program is to help teach students ways of coping with and recovering from traumatic experiences. We will start this intervention opportunity after winter break for students who require this level of support. Below is some additional information regarding our new intervention program;

*45 minute group sessions once a week for 10 weeks.

*Groups of 4-6 students in similar grade levels.

*Led by the child’s school clinician with special training to run these groups.

*Content: coping skills, feelings identification, relaxation, positive activities, social support, problem solving, reducing any stress or anxiety they feel about being exposed to a stressful/traumatic event, getting back to doing what they want and need to be able to do.

*Entails 1-3 group parent sessions to inform parents of the skills that the children are learning so they can support them at home.

Sign up is below. Please contact our school social worker, Ms. Jaroszz with any questions. jaroszm@ccsd15.net Bounce Back Link

Recess

As we head into December, students will continue to go outside to enjoy the fresh air and physical activity! Please kindly ensure your child(ren) has extra clothing (hats, gloves, warmer jackets) as needed for when going outside. Thank you!

THANK A CENTRAL ROAD STAFF MEMBER

Teachers in general love this time of year. Central Road teachers and staff members take the prospect of beginning a new year to a whole new level. They prepare their classrooms, plan lessons, organize schedules, review student records, and think about all of the possibilities the year ahead holds. As much as we recognize their efforts and successes here at school, nothing means more to a teacher or staff member than a kind word from a student or his/her family. As we get the year underway, I invite you to take notice of the things you see your child's teacher do, hear your child's teacher say, or the things you hear your child gush with excitement about related to their teacher. We've included this simple form for you to submit should you feel so inclined to do so. Children in full day school spend more of their waking day with their teacher than they do with their parents. We thank you for entrusting your child with us! This is going to be a great school year.

PTA Sponsored Talent Show

The Talent Show is back! This year’s show will be LIVE in a new location at Rolling Meadows High School on Friday, January 28th. Not sure what to do?? Sing a song, play an instrument, perform a dance, show us your artwork, read a poem, demonstrate karate or gymnastics, tell some jokes, lip-sync, show off your skateboard tricks, create a skit, or whatever else you want to share! AND last year’s show was so much fun, parents and siblings are once again invited to participate. Click here for more information and here to sign up by Wednesday, December 22nd. Contact Christine Love (christine.love@att.net), Jackie Manola (jackie.m.manola@gmail.com), or Kate Garassino (kategarassino@gmail.com) with any questions.

Moving 15 Forward Community Meetings

As part of the Moving 15 Forward initiative, the District has scheduled community meetings at each of our schools. Central Road's visit is tentatively set for Wednesday, January 26th. During our meeting, an overview of the proposal will be presented, and specifics on proposed changes to our school will be shared. Additional information will be shared as we finalize plans, but we wanted to send a Save the Date in hopes all interested families can add the date to their calendar.

A Note from Mrs. Kathy Nordin

Here is our December 2021 Safety Message. Now that we're watching 2021 wind down, I would like to suggest that everyone think about what has been discussed over the last few months and remain safe as the weather begins to change. I am not going to repeat everything here right now. I just hope everyone has been kindly paying attention. Finally, I want to wish everyone a Happy Holiday Season and wonderful New Year. Hopefully, 2022 will be the year we have been hoping for. Thank you for taking the time to read my message.

Health Office News 12-12-2021

As we head into the winter months, please continue to encourage good hand washing. Please also keep your child at home if he/she is feeling ill. We continue to work hard to keep our students learning in person at school each day and appreciate your support. Please also kindly send your child to school with an extra mask if possible in their backpack.

Shield Testing Update

Shield testing continues to take place one time a week at Central Road. Please send all SHIELD Opt-Ins/Outs to at SHIELD@ccsd15.net.

Our district began Test to Stay (T2S) Program on October 25th. We have ben working through the steps together if/when the need arises at Central Road. Thank you for reading our district's communication regarding this optional program.

Students continue to sit 3 feet away from peers masked while learning indoors. Mask wearing outdoors continues to remain optional for students and staff. We have recently adjusted our indoor eating/seating arrangements as best as possible to ensure students are closer to 6 feet apart when eating.

Return to school with COVID-like symptoms (with no known exposure)

  • If a person has a COVID symptom and goes home, in order for them to come back, we have to have a negative PCR COVID test and fever-free for 24 hours.
  • If they have vomiting or diarhea, they need to be symptom free for 48 hours and have a negative PCR COVID test to return.
  • If they have any other COVID symptom, they need to have a negative test to return.
  • If they decide not to get a test after a symptom was identified, they can return after 10 days.

If you have any questions regarding your child's health, you may reach me at patela1@ccsd15.net or at 847-963-5102. We will work together to ensure all guidelines are followed and clearly understood while keeping our students all safe and healthy!
