The Stoffle Gazette

News from this week

It's hard to believe but the first 9 weeks are officially over. Though it took a few weeks, the students all seem to be adjusting to the pace of 4th grade. It's a fast pace but they are all doing well. We took lots of tests and final grades this week so I know they are all mentally exhausted. I hope they are able to get out and play a lot this weekend to give their growing brains a rest! Report Cards will be sent home in next week’s Friday Folder.

Thank you to all the parents that sent in snacks for testing this week! The kids really enjoyed them and liked having snack time before lunch rather than at the end of the day.

Please remember that reading logs are due every Monday. Please be sure to sign and send in a reading log each week. If you submit the reading log online, please make sure to send me a quick email so I can check your child's name off the list.

Also, please make sure to continue helping your child practice their multiplication and other math facts. We will continue building on what we have learned so far and knowing their math facts is essential to that learning. If you are looking for extra math practice, there are lots of great websites, including http://www.commoncoresheets.com/.

Please remember that this Monday, October 12, there will no school for students. It will be a teacher work day.

I hope everyone has a wonderful 3 day weekend!

Coming up next week

Reading: We will be identifying firsthand and secondhand accounts.

Language Arts: We will start our guided information writing pieces.

Math: We will begin our unit on Multiples and Factors. We will also learn about Prime and Composite Numbers. Please continue to practice the multiplication facts with your child. It is so critical that they know these well! There are a lot of Math Facts apps available for free that can help and I have several of them listed on my eClass website.

Science: We will begin our unit on the Stars and Solar Systems after we finish our unit on the Explorers.

Social Studies: We will finish our unit on European Explorers and take our test this week.

It is time for the Annual Pumpkin Contest!

Room Moms are helping each classroom decorate a pumpkin. The decorated pumpkins will be on display in the main hallway outside the Media Center from Tuesday, October 27 until Friday, October 30. On each of these days, students may bring their pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to vote for their favorite pumpkin. All money raised will be given to Relay for Life, a community event that raises money for Cancer research. The pumpkins will be auctioned off to the highest bidder at Bingo Night on Friday, October 30.
