Dunn's Corners School

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe

April 8, 2022

Good afternoon DCS!

The fourth graders took their ELA RICAS (state assessment) this week. We are very proud of their hard work taking this on demand (no help) assessment. Third grade will start next week. Dates are below.

RICAS (state assessment) will be happening this spring for all grade 3 and 4 students. Mark your calendars for the following dates:

Grade 3 ELA: April 12 and 13

Grade 4 Math: May 9 and 10

Grade 3 Math: May 12 and 13

Today, we had a lockdown drill, which is a specific safety drill to prepare students and staff to achieve maximum safety in the event of an internal threat such as intruder.

For those who may volunteer or be asked to chaperone an event or field trip, please complete your BCI, https://www.westerly.k12.ri.us/domain/77.

Remember to go directly to your child's teacher for any questions, concerns, positive feedback, or for information about the school day.

We will be using #dcsanchors all over social media. Look for it on twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!

Have a great weekend!

Attendance UPDATE

The realistic goal is to have less than 5% chronically absent, but ultimately 0%. Chronically absent is defined as being out 10% of the days in school. This data impacts our STAR rating. Currently, we are at 11% chronically absent. Currently, we are ranked #28 of all RI schools with best attendance rating. Keep up the great work!

For those who are chronically absent, Attendance Officer John Riley may visit your home to inquire about attendance.

Ready to Learn

Second Grade: Second grade is writing informational booklets about insect pollinators in EL. As a reminder, pollinators are an agent (such as a bee, butterfly, bird, or bat) that pollinates flowers. They are continuing to work on regrouping strategies in Math. For example,

532 - 348 = 184. Also in Math, they are working on telling time in intervals of 5.

Is your child not in Second Grade? Check the next newsletter. Every week a different grade gets a turn.
