WMS Update August 23, 2022

Welcome Back!

Dear Wamsutta Families:

Welcome back! The Wamsutta Middle School faculty is excited for the start of the school year. We hope that everyone had the chance to relax and enjoy the summer with family and friends. Thank you to all the parents, students, teachers, and community members for their contributions to the WMS school community last year - we look to continue the work we've done to finally (hopefully) have a "normal" school year.

We have quite a few new staff additions this school year. This past Spring, Mr. Andrew Benharris & Dr. Paul Madden signed on to become the new WMS Assistant Principals. We also added the following new teachers: Ms. Rebekha Rose (7/8 Math), Ms. Bethanne Milton (5th grade ELA/Social Studies), Mr. Benjamin Dyer (7/8 Social Studies), and Ms. Katherine Brooks (7/8 ELA). All come highly recommended and will make great additions to to our staff.

In efforts to maintain ongoing communication, I ask that throughout the school year you reference your Aspen portal, the WMS/APS website & Facebook page, and your emails/Smores for any updates on events happening at WMS. Please know that eventually the APS website & App will become the main communication tool replacing weekly email updates.

As mentioned in Superintendent Sawyer's message to families, "APS has adopted a new platform for its website and direct communication with families. We recommend that you download our new app (Android or iPhone) to stay connected. This fall we will share more information about our use of the two-way messaging function of this application. Families will still be able to access all of our messages through our website, which remains www.attleboroschools.com, but the APS app will be required to maximize the improved experience provided by this powerful new tool."

Please see the information below regarding this school year.

Thank you!

Kevin Atkinson

Principal

First Day of School

Below are some details to be aware of for August 29th, 2022

  • Drop off for students that are considered “walkers” begins at 7:30 A.M. Please note, teachers will be posted throughout the grounds beginning at 7:30 a.m. If your student is dropped off prior to 7:30, they will be unsupervised.

  • Students eating breakfast may enter the building @ 7:30 A.M.

  • All students may enter the building @ 7:40 A.M. & should be in homeroom by 7:50 A.M.

  • The school day ends @ 2:20 P.M. Students that are staying after should make arrangements with the parent/guardian for pick up.

  • Parents/guardians are asked to call in their child’s absence from school (508 223-1540) & provide written documentation for the absence.

  • Students should also bring in a combination lock & provide the combination to their homeroom teacher.

  • Lunches & breakfast will again be free of charge for all students this year. However, all families need to complete lunch forms regardless of lunch status. The forms will be sent home with your child or may be found at attleboroschools.com. This data impacts our local funding including fee for service transportation waivers.

  • Please review the necessary paperwork (including lunch forms) and return these forms to your child’s homeroom teacher during the first week of school.

  • All parents/guardians and guests of the Wamsutta Middle School must enter via the

front entrance & check in with the main office.

Traffic Patterns/Entrances

  • 5th Grade Students will enter & exit the entrance nearest the gymnasium.
  • All other students (6-8) will enter & exit through the main entrance.
  • Please review the attached WMS traffic pattern.
