Parent Communication Log

At the admin meeting we talked about a uniform parent communication log. I have made a sample of two different digital formats. Please review the two links below, feel free to enter information. Then email Ashley with feedback on the forms.

Parent Patron Advisory Team (PPAT)

In order to increase participation on the Parent Patron Advisory Team, we are asking each school to invite two parents to represent their school at monthly meetings. The meetings will be held the third Wednesday of each month. Please provide Heather with the names for your school, as well as their email address by October 14.

Special Education

Parenting with Love and Logic

Parenting with Love and Logic was scheduled to begin last month but we did not have enough response to hold the class. We have had a few additional parents sign up but there is still plenty of space for more to participate in this effective parenting course. Flyers will be provided to each school for distribution at Parent / Teacher and Student Led Conferences. We would like to target parents of 6th and 9th grade students. We will have flyers for the advisory teachers of these grades to hand each parent a flyer. Homemade treats will be served at each class and child care will be provided.

We are in the process of publishing brochures to educate parents on MTSS / RTI (Multi-Tiered Systems of Supports / Response to Intervention). The brochures will be available to share at Parent / Teacher and Student Led Conferences.

The Section 504 process list and plan documents are located on the District Share K drive. Please send hard copies of your Section 504 plans to Sherry Bingham at DSC, do not e-mail. Plans may also be put on Milepost under Educational Support. This will provide access to the staff members who need to be aware of and follow student 504 plans

New Teacher Mentor Program

All first year teachers are required to attend the District new teacher mentor program. They are held the 3rd Thursday of the month at the District Service Center from 4:00-5:00. In September we talked about communication with parents as well as student engagement technique they could use in their classrooms. Our next meetings will focus on the Charlotte Danielson framework used for teacher evaluations. October 22 is the next day for these teachers. If you have teachers who are not in their first year, but would benefit, please let me know and I will add them to the list. Let Ashley know of any other topics that would be beneficial for your new teachers.

Tip for Healthy Living

You Go Yogurt

Yogurt provides a balance of carbs and protein to maintain a steady flow of energy. Yogurt is high in calcium and has live cultures that contain probiotics, which are helpful for digestion and immunity. Not all yogurt is healthy so make sure to look for these things:

  • Serving size of six to eight ounces
  • Less than 200 calories per serving
  • Six grams or more of protein
  • Four grams or less of fat
  • Less than 30 grams of sugar
  • Contains enough calcium to meet 20% or more of your recommended dietary allowance

Buy brands that feature "Live & Active Cultures" and contain additional probiotics. Look for the words "Lactobacillus (L. Acidophilus)" and/or "Bifidobacterium (B. Bifidum)" in the list of ingredients.

Add fruits like bananas or berries to plain yogurt for a real power breakfast

Misc. Information

Jazz musician, Rob Verdi is available to do school programs or band clinics. He only charges $300 which is very reasonable and one of the lowest rates I have come across for such things. He has local ties and so he visits here quite frequently. For more information, visit his website.

Idaho's Brightest Star Awards 2016

This is a fabulous opportunity to award a parent volunteer, a student, and a school to be recognized. The awards are nice! Please submit your nominations if you so choose by 5 PM on November 13, 2015.

Middle School Math Conference

Have a GREAT week!
