Habitat and Diet

Some elephants can live in grasslands, they can also be found in the desert of the Savannah, and forest areas. Habitat loss is a key threat that elephants face. Elephant live by a habitat that has adequate food and water. Elephants tend to eat fat grasses, leaves, bamboo, bark, and roots. They can also eat banana and sugarcane. Adult elephants eat about 300-400 lbs. of food per day. Elephants are also herbivorous.


Elephants are the largest terrestrial animal. Elephants are mostly known for their tusks. They are a brownish gray color. They have a ear shape of a triangular or trapezoid. An elephant's foot is a large pad of fat and connective tissue at the heel.

Their skin has a wrinkly texture.

Elephant Poaching

Elephants are heavily poached for their tusks. An elephants tusks contain ivory so that is why it is heavily poached. The tusks can make billard balls, piano keys, and identification chop.


It was thought that there have been 3-5 million elephants in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1980s 100,000 elephants were killed. 300,000 elephants are still roaming the sub regions.

When elephants swim they use their trunk as a snorkel to breathe. The elephant is the only mammal in the world that can't jump. Their skin is one inch thick. An elephants trunk contains more than 40,000 muscles.fo
