Galena Park I.S.D. Employee Newsletter
A MESSAGE FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
March 30, 2020
Dear Galena Park I.S.D. Staff,
I hope this letter finds each of you in good physical and mental health, and adjusting well to our new methods of delivering high-quality instruction to our students. I have seen many photos and videos on social media of teachers and other school staff reaching out to their students, and am deeply touched by these images.
As I am certain you are aware, the Galena Park Board of Trustees held a special meeting recently during which they presented and approved a resolution to continue to pay all regularly scheduled employees during the COVID-19 school closure. What a blessing! There are many in our community who have not continued to receive a paycheck during this unprecedented situation. Many thanks to our Board of Trustees for this important action.
Galena Park I.S.D. will remain closed until it is safe for us to reopen. Although we are currently scheduled to remain closed through April 10th, this is a rapidly changing situation and no formal decision has been made regarding the District’s reopening. We will keep you all updated as we receive additional information and further decisions are made. We are grateful and relieved Governor Greg Abbott has canceled all Spring STAAR/EOC testing, which will allow us to focus on our students’ individual academic needs when we return to school.
As soon as it is healthy and safe for our society to return to normal activities, our national, state and local authorities will allow for a return to normalcy. Until then, GPISD will continue to keep you updated and will continue to work to fulfill our mission of preparing students to become productive citizens and lifelong learners, using every resource available to us.
Until we see each other again, I urge you to continue to adhere to the Stay Home, Work Safe Order issued by County Judge Lina Hidalgo. Each of you, and your loved ones, continue to be in my constant prayers.
Yours Truly,
Angi Williams, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools

APRIL CHARACTER EDUCATION THEME: SELF-DISCIPLINE
It takes a high degree of SELF-DISCIPLINE to comply with what is asked of us during our nation's attempt to "flatten the curve" of the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We are asked to stay home, and to leave our homes only for reasons that meet our most basic needs.
As educators, we have responded in spectacular fashion to meet the continuing educational needs of our students, and look forward to the day we can all look back on our current situation with satisfaction, richer for the experience, and healthier than ever before due to stricter germ-fighting techniques we have learned and implemented.
Be strong, and strengthen your SELF-DISCIPLINE when you feel the urge to disregard restrictions enacted to "flatten the curve."
GPISD Technical Support
The Technical Support offered is to assist students and staff with accessing District resources; the support is not provided as technical support for personal hardware.
