Power Up Pirate Leaders
Happy Friday Siegrist Families,
This week was a busy and exciting week for us, this week we celebrated Dot Day. Wednesday morning during our PLC Lead Time, Mr. Powers, Mrs. Wycoff, Dr. Mann and myself met with our new Student Lighthouse Leadership Team. During our first meeting we spent time getting to know each other and talked about our why for joining the team. Students brainstormed leadership opportunities and shared ideas for ways we can make Siegrist better. We are excited for our next meeting and look forward to sharing updates and their plans in upcoming newsletters.
Have a great weekend. We are looking forward to welcoming our Siegrist leaders back to school on Monday.
Best,
Mrs. Johna-Kaye Sutton

22-23 Watch D.O.G.S. signup
The Dads of Great Students WATCH D.O.G.S. program is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. WATCH D.O.G.S. is a family and community engagement educational initiative designed and developed by educators, experts and parent volunteers over more than two decades.
These programs for Elementary and Secondary School campuses help provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important. Meanwhile, we provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security, reduce bullying and provide a greater sense of campus safety allowing students and teachers to focus on learning and instruction.
WATCH D.O.G.S. mission is to support principals and teachers by providing willing volunteers while contributing to improved outcomes for students. If you are interested in being a WATCH D.O.G., please use the link below to sign up.

HAPPY FALL YA ALL!
For Siegrist 3rd-5th grade families!
The week of September 26 - September 30 we need students to bring their own personal bike helmets from home if you have one to PE class (see your teacher's newsletter for this schedule). Bringing your own helmet will help save time but also allow us to check if your child's helmet fits properly. If your child does not have a helmet already, please do NOT go purchase one. A helmet will be provided if needed. Elbow and knee guards are welcomed but not required. If your child does not know how to ride a bike, that is ok, we will make accommodations as needed to make sure all students are comfortable.
We are so excited to have a new and very hands-on PE activity coming to Siegrist...Bike Safety! BikeWalkKC will be coming to team-teach with us the rules of the road with their BLAST program. A huge thank you to our PTA for using our fundraising money from APEX last year to bring this program to our students.
Homecoming 2022 Details: October 3-8, 2022
Platte County's Homecoming festivities run October 3-8, 2022. This year's theme is "A Storybook Homecoming." Click here for the week's spirit days and festivities.
PCHS will host the Victory Supper on Wednesday, October 5, starting at 6 p.m. at Pirate Stadium. The Victory Supper will be a community pep rally with our coaches introducing the fall teams, the crowning of the underclassmen candidates and the Homecoming King, and performances by the Traditions Band, PCHS cheerleaders and alumni cheerleaders. PCHS cheerleading alumni are asked to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a short practice. Second (or third) generation Pirates (those students with parents who graduated from PCHS) are invited to gather at 5:45 p.m. in the southside stands for a group photo. The event is open to the community.
The Homecoming Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 7, and will run on Fourth Street from Thomas Drive to Rising Star Park. Students will be dismissed three hours early that day. Parents and the community are encouraged to arrive by 2:25 p.m. as Fourth Street between Zed Martin and Thomas Drive will be closed to traffic beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thomas Drive between Siegrist Elementary and Fourth Street will also be closed. If you'd like to participate in the parade, please contact Kyle Perkins for an entry form by October 5. If you have a convertible or Jeep and would be willing to drive Homecoming candidates, please contact Robin Herron.
- PLEASE NOTE: There will be changes to the staging area setup for the parade this year. We will be utilizing the bus loop at the PCHS Phase I Rebuild project for float staging, NOT the back parking lot of PCMS this year. Parade entries will receive complete instructions.
- AGAIN THIS YEAR: There will be a shuttle bus to take parade participants and their sponsors back to the main PCR-3 campus. The shuttle bus will be parked along Zed Martin Drive. Floats will disband in the Rising Star Park/Splash Pad and will take the path from Rising Star Park to Zed Martin Drive. We encourage parents to pick up their participants at the PCR-3 main campus.
Immediately following the parade, Wells Bank will host its annual Community Tailgate Party, in the High Pointe Shops Shopping Center parking lot. The community is invited to come see PCHS's Traditions Band, cheerleaders and dance team perform, and enjoy free food and drinks!
Homecoming Football Game: The Pirates will take on the Belton Pirates at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 7 at Pirate Stadium. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime, and the Pride Band will perform after the game.
For PCHS Students Only: PCHS students are encouraged to participate in Homecoming hallway decorations on Sunday, October 2 from 1-6pm and decorate designated class hallways. The PCHS Homecoming Dance will be held Saturday, October 8 in PCHS's North Gym from 8-11pm. $10 per person.
Open Positions at PCR-3
The school year has started, but we still have some openings across our District, including bus drivers, custodians, paraprofessionals, and lunch monitors. If interested in joining our team, click here to apply!
Specifically at Siegrist Elementary, we have openings for Support Staff/Paraprofessional, Elementary Teaching/Elementary Level Educator, and Support Staff/Lunch Monitor .
English Language Arts and Math Screener (Fastbridge) to Guide Personalized Instruction
Students in PCR-3 participate in screening in English Language Arts and Mathematics as a way to provide information related to skill acquisition in those areas. This assessment, known as FastBridge, replaces STAR, which was used in the District for quite some time. Fastbridge is a nationally normed screener and is a skills-aligned assessment that will inform instruction to best meet student learning needs. This assessment will be administered three times this school year: Fall, Winter, and Spring. Our Fall window runs September 1 - September 30. Students do not need to prepare for this assessment and the results are used for informational purposes only.
Counselor's Corner
Welcome to a new school year! We are so happy to have you at Siegrist. This year we have made some changes to the counseling department that we wanted to share with you. We now have two counselors at Siegrist: Dr.Mann and Mrs. Burrows! Dr. Mann will be working with 2nd -5th graders and Mrs. Burrows will be working with Kindergarten and 1st graders. Mrs. Burrows is at Siegrist on Thursday and Friday and a rotating Wednesday. She is split between us and Compass. The school counseling program overview can be viewed here.
Attendance:
School attendance is so important! Our school attendance goal is: 90% or higher attendance. We wanted to share a few attendance facts with you to highlight the importance of attendance:
Missing two days per month is the equivalent of 18 days per year or 10% of the school year.
Poor attendance can affect a child’s ability to read proficiently by the end of third grade.
When school attendance improves, so does the likelihood of graduating high school.
-We are here to work as a team to help your child succeed. If getting to school is a concern, please reach out to a staff member for assistance.
The best way to reach us is via email. Please don’t hesitate to contact either of us if you are needing anything. Our contact information is below:
