Heritage Happenings

Dear Heritage Families
Hello Heritage Families,
We are so excited to start this new year with you and your kids! Although we do have some mixed feelings as we reminisce about our fun family time and all the naps we will be missing! Your kids probably have some mixed emotions as well. Please give them grace as they jump back into the swing of things this week.
Routines are so important to our kids' success. As we begin our new year, please try to get back into your "school routine" or create a new one with your children. The most important things you can do each night are:
- Talk to your child about their day
- Find a time to read to your child or have them read to you
- Clean out the backpack/folder/binder
As moms ourselves, we sometimes find that first bullet to be the most difficult. (Especially with Dr. Sutton's 13 year old!) We have included a link below with ways to ask your child about their day...that actually result in a detailed answer! :)
We hope they have some awesome things to share with you this week!
Love,
Dr. Megan Sutton & Mrs. Jessica Hanks

WSD Belonging and Culture Family Survey
As part of the WSD’s ongoing efforts to meet the goals within the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP), district surveys will be administered to students in grades K-12, families, and staff. The surveys are designed to solicit feedback about the sense of belonging created within each building as well as perspectives regarding building/department culture. Each school and department within the district will use this survey data to understand the current reality and to make improvements moving forward.
Families may begin taking the survey starting Jan. 4, by clicking here. The survey will remain open through Jan. 20.
The district windows for students to take the surveys are Jan. 30-Feb. 10 and May 1-19.
For more information regarding these surveys, including logistics about the administration of the surveys, a preview of the surveys, and information on how to opt-out, please check out our WSD Belonging and Culture Survey page.
Parents Right to Know, Missouri Elementary and Secondary Education
Our district is required to inform you of information that you, according to the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (Public Law 114-95), have the right to know.
Upon your request, our district is required to prove to you in a timely manner, the following information:
Whether your student’s teacher has met State qualifications and licensing criteria for the grade levels and subject areas in which the teacher provides instruction.
Whether your student’s teacher is teaching under emergency or other provisional status through which state qualifications or licensing criteria have been waived.
Whether your student’s teacher is in the field of discipline or the certification of the teacher.
Whether your child is provided services by paraprofessionals and, if so, their qualifications.
In addition to the information that parents may request, a building receiving Title I.A funds must provide to each individual parent:
Information on the level of achievement and academic growth of your student, if applicable and available, on each of the state academic assessments required under Title I.A.
Timely notice that your student has been assigned, or has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by, a teacher who has not met applicable State certification or licensure requirements at the grade level and subject area in which the teacher has been assigned.

Heritage Science Fair
The Science Fair will be held on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. Projects will be judged that afternoon, and will be on display for classes to view the following day. There will also be a Family Viewing/Pick-up that evening (Feb. 7) from 5-6 p.m. This is a great way to spend some time together as a family, learn about the scientific process, and stay busy during these unusual times. If you have any questions, please contact our Heritage Primary Science Fair coordinator, Kathy Hoffmann (kathleenhoffmann@wsdr4.org), or our Heritage Intermediate Science Fair coordinator, Kelsey Sweeten (kelseysweeten@wsdr4.org).

Also, students will not be released for pick up after 2:30 pm so please plan accordingly if you may need to pick your student up early from either office.
Caps for Camp and PJ Day!

Breakfast & Lunch
We already have some students who have negative lunch accounts. Please ensure that you are putting money in your child's lunch account.
Heritage Primary Breakfast & Lunch Menu
Heritage Intermediate Breakfast & Lunch Menu
We encourage all families to fill out the Free & Reduced Lunch form. Not only could you qualify for a free or reduced lunch rate, but this provides our district with the information it needs to secure Title 1 funds.
We have included a PDF of the Free and Reduced Lunch Application and also have paper copies available in the office.
The application can seem confusing, so if you would like us to help you fill it out-please call our office. We would be happy to help you ensure you are getting your best lunch rate!
Birthday Treat Policy Updated
Birthdays are special to your child and we want them to enjoy this occasion. At school, each teacher can decide how to handle classroom celebrations in a way that respects the instructional time and learning needs of all the students.
You are welcome to send non-edible birthday treats into your child’s classroom to celebrate their birthday if you choose.
What is Helping Hands?
