Fun Facts: I have been to all 50 states as well as Russia, Poland, Germany, Czechoslovakia, and Australia. I had the unique opportunity to try out for the 1996 USA Olympic Team Handball squad and was named an alternate. I try to use life experiences to enhance the classroom learning experience. My goal is to get to know each of my students and challenge them to become their personal best! It's a GREAT day to be a Panther!

Lauren Freston
Having always loved literature, I always wanted to be a teacher; however, college was not an option for me. When my oldest children were in high school, I was frustrated that they were not excited about learning. I would have done anything to have been able to have the same opportunities as they had. With this thought, I realized that there was nothing standing in my way. I did have the same opportunities! I enrolled in college that afternoon and did not stop until I received my Master's in Education.
What I have learned from this is that there is never a time in your life when you can say, "It's too late for me." I was afraid I was too old. I was afraid I could not keep up with the young kids coming out of high school. What I found was that as a non-traditional student, I valued every ounce of learning I could get. Four years later, I was the class speaker at my graduation ceremony as I had the highest GPA of my peers!
I have been teaching now for ten years, and I love love love helping my students obtain their dreams! I am excited to be joining the Midway High School family!

I have been teaching for 3.5 years. I began teaching overseas in Bangalore, India at an international school, where I taught English in grades 9-12. I returned to Killeen, Texas and wrote for both the Killeen Daily Herald and Tex Appeal Magazine. Following that, I moved to Waco and taught English at Waco High School for two years at the standard, advanced and remedial levels.
I have a beautiful black manx cat with yellow eyes named Bagheera, who I call my "mini panther." I enjoy creative writing, good movies, ballroom dancing, baking, hiking, and singing.

I was born and raised here in Waco, Tx. I attended Midway from K-12 and I am glad to be back teaching here! After graduating from Midway in 2010, I attended Baylor University, where I got my Bachelors of Business Administration in Human Resource Management and my minor in Political Science. This is my third year teaching at Midway and my second year teaching 9th grade. I cannot wait to see what the school year has in store for us all!
Fun Facts:
- I have a sister who graduated from Midway in 2013 and is now a senior at Baylor.
- I love Baylor and you can find me at pretty much any sporting event cheering the Bears on.
- I have a Micro-Mini Dachshund named Maggie Sue who is my only child.
- My favorite drink in sweet tea. (You will almost always find me with one from McAlisters)

What You Need to Know to Become a Champion (Student Expectations)
Training Sessions (Homework)
Students will be assigned homework periodically throughout the six weeks. Homework will typically be in the form of reading a selection, working on/finishing an essay, or completing a study guide or a test review. Students are expected to complete all homework and turn it in on time. Any work done in class or assigned for homework will always be posted in Schoology for students to see, If a student is absent they will be expected to check Schoology to see what they have missed and need to turn in.
Latework: Students that do not turn homework in on time will be given up to three days to turn in a missing assignment with a ten point deduction for each day it is late. After three days the grade given for the assignment will automatically become a zero.

The Most Important Thing You Need to Become a Champion is YOU!
"Champions are not the ones who always win races - champions are the ones who get out there and try. And try harder the next time. And even harder the next time. "Champion" is a state of mind. They are devoted. They compete to best themselves as much if not more than they compete to best others. Champions are not just athletes." ~Simon SInek~
