We want to say Thank You to everyone who has helped out with the “Scrub-a-Dub Club” this week & and Thank You to all our wonderful Laminators! We appreciate all of you so much!

📝 Letter from Mrs.Bugg |

We want to thank everyone for a wonderful second week of school. Arrival and dismissal times are much improved (19 minutes for dismissal on Friday, WooHoo!!!). Thank you for your patience and perseverance with technology. We are learning to use these learning platforms and apps right along with you:

If your child brought home a device, and you all were able to log onto it – That’s a success!

• If you found an assignment – That’s a success! (for both the teacher who figured out how to load it and you all who opened it).

• If you completed an assignment – That’s a success!

• And if you sent the assignment back – Even more success!!!!

If your family, was not able to do all of this, that’s ok. We are all learning. Please email your child’s teacher for help. Just take baby steps. We are a team, and we will help each other. Please also refer to the four posters in this SMORE that will help you trouble shoot and problem solve. Just remember one of our favorite quotes:

🔒💻 Device Protection Plan 🔒💻

As with all district resources, families will be financially responsible for loss, theft and damage to iPads and Chromebooks. The District provides a low-cost Student Technology Protection Plan (STPP) to help offset these costs. Please check the technology page on our district website daily for updated information on the STPP, as well as information regarding devices, tech support, and general technology information and Q&A.

Purchasing Protection Plan Instructions:

1. Click the Purchase button below

2. You may still login to your student's account directly. Please use your student's District ID number as the user name, your student's last name for the password with the first letter capitalized (i.e. Smith). (You can find your students ID Number on Parent Portal https://edmondschools.infinitecampus.org/campus/portal/parents/edmond.jsp?status=logoff )

3. Follow the instructions as follows

‼️ Deadline for semester 1 is Monday, August 31. ‼️

At-home Learning Expectations and Tips:

  • Students will need to complete all assignments for their three at-home days by Sunday night at 11:59 PM.

  • Students will need to login & work on a regular schedule. They can work ahead, but should not get behind.

  • Create a schedule for daily, at-home school work that works for your family.

  • Time on task will equate to about 3.5 hours for elementary and 4.5 hours for secondary.

  • This will not all be screen time.

  • Attendance for the three at-home days will be taken based on completed work for those days.

  • Don’t let a question hold you up! Contact your teacher if you need help.

  • Teachers will be teaching during the day. They will answer emails after before/after school or on Wednesdays.

Hotspot Availability

The district has a limited number of Wi-Fi Hot Spots on order, but they have not arrived yet. These devices are intended for low-income families that cannot afford a home internet connection. If you have had a recent loss of income, please fill out our application below for free and reduced meals. A Hot Spot application will be available soon on our technology web page.

If there is inclement weather at dismissal time, we will hold students in the building until it is safe to release them. This past Thursday, there was a bolt of lightning and thunder clap so large that it completely knocked out electricity to the entire school. That included all of our computers and the Car Rider Plus system. This was followed by torrential rain storm for a short period. We did hold the children in the building. Please remember that there is no shelter for Neighborhood Pick-up/Walkers. Those children and our duty teachers are completely exposed to the elements. Thank you for your patience while we keep everyone safe.

🚘Drop-off Procedures

Enter the campus from Sorghum Mill Road. Follow the road until your car is at the front entrance. Drop-off for students will begin @8:50a.m. School Begins at 9:20a.m.

A staff member will be on duty until 9:15 A.M. to greet students. Students need to be inside the school building by 9:15a.m., so that they are inside the classroom by 9:20 when school starts. Children should exit cars on the right side of the car only and enter the school via the front doors. Please pull all the way forward to the next available numbered sign; this will allow 6-8 cars to unload at once. Please note there is a blind spot as cars come around the corner of the SW pod.

** Parents MUST stay in your car. We will have teachers who will assist your students into the building and to then to their classrooms.

** Please note we are flexiable with this on bad weather days.

NEW** Car Rider Plus Dismissal System

Big picture

🚘Pick-up Procedures

•••Parents MUST stay in your cars at all times.•••

Please enter the campus using the west entrance via Sorghum Mill Road.

Follow the road all the way around so that you drive past the front door. As you enter, a staff member will type your number in a key pad and that number will flash on the classroom smart board in the school. Your students will then exit out the building and to your car.

•We will NOT have Walk-up/pick- up this year.

•We WILL have neighborhood pick-up for Twin Bridges. Students will walk with a teacher for that.

Thank you for your patience with after school pick-up. It is always longer the first few days of school because many families like to come to school and pick up their students. Next week, most will ride buses. We are also learning to operate the Car Rider Plus system and have changed locations and procedures for students who are car riders. After a little practice we will be back down to our normal 15-20 minutes. Thank you again for your wonderful support. We are so grateful to have you as partners.

This year we have a NEW dismissal system called Car-Rider Plus through School SafeID. Each family should have received a 2 visor tags and a number for each of your students to wear on his/her backpack.

If you DID NOT get to pick up your car rider tags on Wednesday, August 19th or receive them on the first day of school. Please contact the front office 405-349-2921

🏫 School Procedures:

If you are wondering how lunchtime, recess, clubs, PTO meetings and more will work, please refer to the Return to School Guidelines. The guidelines are updated as new information about the virus becomes known.

These guidelines are very informative! Please take the time to read.

During a normal school year, it takes time for students and staff to settle into a routine. During a pandemic, when nearly every school procedure has changed, it undoubtedly will take even longer for everyone to feel comfortable with the new plans, practices and systems. However, if this pandemic has taught us anything, it has taught us that it is possible to be flexible, adaptable, and calm even in the midst of tremendous uncertainty.

Mask Guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released a clarification on the level of protection provided by face shields (versus the more widely used face masks) with the following warning: “CDC does not recommend use of face shields for normal everyday activities or as a substitute for cloth face coverings.”

The cloth mask requirement extends to all school facilities, grounds, and classrooms for teachers and students in grades 1-12. Students (PK-12) and teachers attending Edmond Public Schools will be required to wear cloth face masks as they line up for class, in the common areas , like hallways, and when entering and leaving the building.

From time to time, teachers will also be providing brief mask “breaks” for students. Students are not required to wear masks on the playgrounds during recess as long as they can practice social distancing. If you haven’t done so already, it’s a good idea to practice having your child wear a mask around the house so they become used to it.

Face shields may be appropriate and used sparingly in some situations such as when an elementary teacher or language specialist is delivering instruction from a small table or desk where seeing the face of the student is crucial. Additionally, face shields may be appropriate for special needs students as prescribed in an IEP.

Vistors to Heritage

Non-essential visitors in the school setting will be discouraged during the period of time that COVID-19 remains active in the community. On the occasions that guests and parents entry into the school is deemed appropriate, they will be expected to check-in through the school’s screening protocol, which may include a brief questionnaire as well as a temperature check. All guests who enter the building, after completing a temperature check, must wear a mask in all areas of the building. As always, all guests must scan their Driver’s License prior to entering the school building.

Edmond Public Schools Launches Mobile App to Keep Community Informed and Involved!

Edmond Public Schools has launched an official mobile app designed to enable parents, staff, and students to stay informed and up-to-date on important issues, information, and activities underway within the school community. The free app is available for download in the Apple and Android app stores by searching for Edmond Public Schools.

The app features push notifications so that users may be notified about important events, announcements, and news in real-time such as bus delays. Users have the ability to choose which of the district’s schools they would like to follow, making their app experience personal and school-specific.

Key features include:

· Push messaging from both the district and school sites

· News

· Google Calendars

· Online grade book and attendance

· Lunch Menus

· Athletic Information

· Language Translations

The mobile app replaces the district's previous app, SchoolWay, which abruptly ceased operations last summer. The app was developed in cooperation with Intrado, provider of School Messenger solutions.
