Tēnā koutou katoa (hello everyone)
It's been a busy couple of weeks and we are rapidly approaching the end of the 2022 school year. Thanks to all of you who continue to keep an eye on app alerts and the school calendar to keep up to date with what is happening and when. Please note school starts for students on Wednesday the 1st of February 2023. A reminder of how to find these dates (including dates for 2023) is below.
At the start of Week 6 we welcomed our two newest pupils - Lucy Brazendale & Ayla Edwards, and their whānau to Gladstone School. We hope that Lucy and Ayla have enjoyed their first 2 weeks with us.
If you are about in the holidays and were able to take a 3 day slot to feed our animals it would be most appreciated. Thanks to Sharpes Farm Feed who continue to provide food for our pig Charlie; chickens and rabbits. A link to the roster is below:
Ōnoke had a wonderful time away in the Coromandel on camp last week. The group had a mixed bag of weather conditions and managed to get most activities ticked off. Please find the full folder of photos linked below. A huge thanks to all of the parents who came with us - your time, effort and participation is hugely appreciated.
Values Focus This Week
Super well done to those students who competed at the South Wairarapa Athletics last Friday. We are equally proud of: Hannah Beetham; Allie Blake; Saoirse Doyle; Kaylee Huck; Harvey James; Lauren James; Ayla Longstaff; Monty Murnane; Lucy Orsborn; Olivia Orsborn; Michael Quirke; Emilio Rogers; Corben Schischka; Hugo Tomlin; Lily Tomlin & Hugo Wilkinson who are now representing Gladstone School & the South Wairarapa at the Regionals next Tuesday. Good luck to all of you.
I am very much looking forward to the 'End of Year Principal's Outing' this coming Wednesday the 7th of December. Congratulations to the following students who have been selected by their teachers to attend the trip: Abby McGregor; Lucy Blake; Mia Gleeson; Madden Davies; Sidney Mason; Harper Nielsen; Jorja Palmer; Amy Wenger; Roczen Nolan; Maddix Bidlake; Neela Rogers (from mid year); Sienna Cosgrove; Troy McGregor; Joel Douglas; Alex Wither; Harvey James; Alex Wenger; Abel Porter; Lyra Alexander; Charlie Ashby; Hugo Wilkinson; Tom Nicol; Lily Tomlin; Cooper Brady & Brodie McGuinness.
Toilet Upgrade Update - The new accessible bathroom and student toilet upgrade is nearing completion. We will let you know when they are ready for use. We will also be explaining to students that they will continue to have options around which toilets they would like to use - the newly refurbished single-room sets of toilets (3 will be allocated to the girls; 3 will be allocated to the boys) or the current hall toilets (the boys side has a large urinal and some of the boys prefer to use this which is fine).
Some students will be using the new accessible bathroom - these students and their caregivers will be notified if this is the case. We appreciate that this has taken much longer than any of us anticipated.
Mya Corkill was presented with this fabulous framed photo at the recent Wairarapa Photography Competition. Mya won her category - Year 0-2 Still Life Section. Great job Mya. We look forward to seeing more photos from you in the future.
We will be sharing our plan for the current permanent position when things are finalised. At this stage the appointments committee have decided to re-advertise the position. A long term reliever will be appointed in the role until the vacancy is filled.
Pack the Bus is on its way again this coming Wednesday the 7th of December. New children's toys or Christmas food items will be welcome. Please send them along to school on Wednesday.
Have a lovely weekend everyone. Thanks in advance to those of you who are available to help for a couple of hours at the firewood working bee this coming Sunday (7:30 - 9:30am).
Ngā manaakitanga,
Belinda

School Swimming Pool
It's not really pool weather, however it's that time of year where we ask whānau if they would like access to the school pool over the summer months. The pool will open on Monday the 12th of December for the duration of the summer. This year you will be provided with a code for the gate once you have signed the pool use agreement form. Please come to the office to do this at some stage next week. There is a $40 hire charge for the season which can be paid by cash or internet banking (Gladstone School 12-3290-0001530-00). If families have keys from last year they please be returned - we are not using keys this year so they won't be of use to you.
