A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East

A Word From Dr. Clune

Dear PV East Parents,

We had a great Outdoor Movie Night last Wednesday. Many thanks to our East Home & School Association for sponsoring this event. It was so much fun! We will definitely need to do it again.

I hope everyone is looking forward to a long weekend. Please remember that there is No School on Monday. To all of our families celebrating Rosh Hashanah, we wish you a good and sweet new year.

Last Wednesday was picture day. If you did not order a photo package for your child in advance, you will still be able to order online later. Picture retake day will be November 11.

Your feedback from Meet The Teacher Night is greatly appreciated. Please use this form.

Please consider registering for the Fall Colors 5K on Saturday, October 15th. The race will take place behind PV East and directly supports PV Woods. In particular, this race helps support our initiatives to add more gardens, chairs, walking trails, trees, etc. right behind our school! There are many more upgrades that we want to add outside. If you register by Monday you will be guaranteed a t-shirt in your size. We will also be introducing the newest PVSD mascot on October 15th along with some other great updates. We are expecting some Lenape people to be joining us as well. This will be a great family event.

There are several clubs that are sharing information. These include Cooking Club, Art Club, PVTV, Ursinus Project, and Spring Musical. Please check out our Activities page on our website. You can email the advisor of any club listed.

Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Twitter. We maintain a very active social media presence.

Message from the Counseling Center

The Counseling Center offers a few different counseling groups throughout the school year. One of those groups is called the Anxiety Group. For the first trimester it is open to 6th grade students only. This group is an educational group for students to learn about anxiety and ways of coping. It is held during advisory on Thursdays. If you are interested in your child participating or if you have questions, please contact Kristin Hildreth

PV Athletics Update

At our recent home football games, administration has observed the need for greater oversight of our elementary and middle school students. For the remainder of the football season, Middle School Students MUST be accompanied by an adult to gain entry into the game. Student safety is our highest priority and we appreciate your support.

Power Packs

PV Power Packs is a weekend food program for students experiencing food insecurity. Bags of food, including 2 breakfast items, 2 lunch items, 2 snacks, and 2 fruits, are sent home with students prior to every weekend. There is no financial information required to participate in this program and students pick up their bags from their counselor or designated person every week.

Nurse's Notes

HEALTH EXAMS: Please remember that 6th grade students require a physical examination and 7th grade students require a dental examination. If your child has had these examinations, please be sure to send a copy to the Nurse's office. Forms are available on the PV website. Your cooperation with this is most appreciated!

SCOLIOSIS SCREENING: School law requires that a screening for scoliosis be performed on all children in grade 7. The Perkiomen Valley School District will conduct a scoliosis screening program beginning September 6, 2022. The purpose of the screening program is to detect possible curvature of the spine in children. If the condition is detected early and appropriately treated, progressive spinal deformity may be prevented. All grade 7 students are scheduled to be screened.

The screening test is very simple and can be performed in less than a minute. The school nurse will check your child’s back by observing it while your child is standing and bending forward. You will be contacted if there is any reason to have your child examined by your pediatrician, family physician, or orthopedist.

Your cooperation is essential to help us make the program run smoothly. If you have any objections to having your child participate in the screening program, please inform the school nurse in writing by September 2, 2022.

MEDICATIONS: If your child has been diagnosed with a life-threatening allergy, seizures or asthma AND requires emergency medication, please be sure to bring the medication to school with the appropriate forms completed by the physician. Forms can be found on the PV website.

Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns regarding your child. I can be reached at 610-409-8580 or emailed at

Our students can submit an anonymous tip through the Safe2Say Program. Tips are typically related to a variety of challenges our students experience or witness, such as bullying, harassment, disrespectful language, safety concerns, etc. When a tip is received, the State (who runs Safe2Say) immediately follows up with building administrators.
