For the month of November we will cover the following topics in the library:



Kinder - continuing author, illustrator, fiction, nonfiction, spine terminology

1st grade - story elements, dialogue, parts of a book, call number, sections of the library

2nd grade - story elements, locating fiction and nonfiction books in the library, fiction vs. nonfiction

3rd grade - locating fiction and nonfiction books in the library, using Destiny to search for books, plot


5th grade - book talk before Thanksgiving Break

Web 2.0 Tools

Check out the new Web 2.0 Tools and Resources that I learned about at the library conference I attended in October:


Edheads - complete virtual surgeries and online simulations, design a cell phone, etc.


Grant Gopher - search by area, subject, etc. to find tons of available grants


Spin and Spell - play an online spelling game in which they give you a word or picture and you have to spell that word


Book Trailers for All - search by book title to view book trailers for that book


Tube Chop - use this website to chop/edit YouTube videos


Shedd Aquarium - find lesson plans, interactives and explorer's guides all about the sea and it's creatures


Mrs. Young's Website

Check out my website that I have been hard at work on. It offers tools for teachers, parents and students. Thus far, I have shown the website to 4th and 5th graders.



Bibliotechie - Blending Literature and Technology


OELMA library conference

In mid-October I attended my first ever library conference hosted by the Ohio Educational Library Media Association (OELMA) in Sandusky, Ohio. I had an amazing time being able to chat with other library media specialists (LMS) from all over Ohio to see what they do in their libraries. I also attended some amazing sessions (see the Web 2.0 tools section above) and met some great authors.
