もくようび - Complete & Submit the Lesson 15 Speaking Assignment
みなさん、おはようございます!
Here's what you need to do today:
- Today you need to complete & submit your speaking assignment.
- Go to coaching if you are scheduled today!
Thank you all for your feedback about when we should have Project Help Night!
ありがとう!
★ Project Help Night will be held Wednesday, May 11th, 7:00 PM
To attend by going to the link marked ☆ Beaver Sensei's Classroom at the top of the list of links on the left hand side of your course.
★ I will hold extra office hours on Tuesday, May 17th from 7:00 to 9:00 PM to take questions via Blackboard IM.
Now, make sure that you've demonstrated this week's grammar correctly in your speaking assignment. This week's grammar is a little complicated and really builds on what you've learned in the past few lessons (especially Lesson 9 and Lesson 11) . If you feel like you need to go back and review, now is the time to do it.
Using つもり です
which means it needs to be followed by a verb or verb phrase. Remember, you can do a VERB, but you can't do a noun... that would be like, in English, saying "I swimming" (a noun) instead of "I swim" (a verb).
Here are some examples:
しゅくだい を する つもり です。
I plan to do my homework.
- Notice how the verb, する (to do) is in the plain form.
- つもり です can only be preceded by a verb in the plain form.
こんしゅうまつ ともだち と かいもの に いく つもり です。
This weekend I plan to go shopping with my friends.
- Try expanding your sentences to include, who, what, and where you intend to do something!
You can also intend NOT to do something. However, you can't make つもり です negative. In order to make it negative, the verb that precedes つもり です must be in the short negative form. (More on how to form the short negative in your grammar notes)
あした がっこう に いかない つもり です。
I intend to not go to school tomorrow.
Bonus Point Opportunity: Can you make your own sentence using つもり です?
Go to the Padlet link: http://padlet.com/bridget_beaver/ae5svh1zerox
Create your own original sentence using つもり です and include the English translation and your name!!
If your Japanese grammar and English translation are correct, you'll earn +2 bonus on this week's speaking assignment!
★ BONUS BONUS: Use つもり です with the NEGATIVE correctly and earn +3! ★
Remember, in order to earn the bonus (or the bonus bonus), you have to actually do the speaking assignment, too!
がんばって!
Review: Using と おもいます
In this week's lesson video you heard the example:
はい、だいじょうぶ だ と おもいます。
Yes, I think so. (OR, Yes I think that will be OK.)
- Instead of using the polite です, you can ONLY use the short form, だ before the expression とおもいます.
- だ is the short form of です。
- と おもいます can ONLY come after a short form of a verb OR adjective.
↓ Watch the video below for more details on how to use と おもいます ↓
いい しつもん ですね!
Colin asked: "Would "I think so too" be 「ぼくもとおもいます。」?"
VERY CLOSE!
to say "I think so, too" you'd say:
- わたし も そう だ と おもうます OR
- わたし も そう おもいます。
Veronica asked: "how would you say "During/for Golden week?"
There are a few different ways to say "during:"
- ゴールデンウィークちゅう にほん に いく つもり です。
the first is ちゅう (中) which means like.. "in the middle of"
another example of ちゅう would be:
コーチング 中 にほんご を れんしゅうします。
I practice Japanese during coaching. - ゴールデンウィーク の あいだ に にほん に いく つもり です。
The second, is maybe a little more familiar, あいだ, which you learned when saying "in between." (remember きっさてん は えき と コンビニ の あいだ に あります)? It also means "during" when used in a context of time!
Remember you can always text or e-mail me with your questions! (*^^*)
