What's Up At The Nest...

Principal's Message

We had another wonderful week at the nest! Students are settling into their classroom routines, are building new relationships, and are learning and growing each day. Just a reminder, there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, September 6th, and Tuesday, September 7th. We will see our owls back at the nest on Wednesday, September 8.

Have a wonderful weekend!

One of the themes we work to teach our students is resilience...

-No ice in our water bottle? That's ok! We won't get a brain freeze.

-No spoon in our snack or lunch? That's ok! A lunch supervisor is happy to help.

-Forgot a snack? That's ok! Some students never bring a snack, so we can have no-snack buddies. Also, lunch is just around the corner!

-No PE shoes? No worries, you will get to watch today but we bet you will remember next time!

It is okay, and preferable, that families don't rush to school to bring items left at home. Part of learning is having to do without so that next time we remember. Teaching responsibility and fostering independence is an important part of the school experience!

Funnel Friday's

Prior to COVID we collaborated with Hersey High School to have "High-Five Friday's". This year we will bring back this celebratory start to our day by having "Funnel Friday's". (no high fives allowed).

Our first Funnel Friday is planned for Friday, September 17th.

What is Funnel Friday?

Working with the school resource officer at Hersey, a team (basketball, soccer, cheerleading, etc) creates a tunnel on our front plaza to welcome our students to school. Our bus riders, CAP friends, and students that enter through door 7 are all directed to enter the main front doors through the tunnel if they want to. We have staff located at door 7 for any student that does not want to participate in the tunnel.

We are still looking for:

- A full-time teaching assistant

- Recess supervisor

- Crossing guards

- Food service personnel

Please visit our district website or contact Ms. Davis ( for more information about these employment opportunities!

Change in Transportation

There was an error in last week's blog post. Phone calls are placed from the office to classroom teachers regarding changes of transportation at 3 pm.
