Old Town Star Staff News
November 16th through December 4th
Our ROCK STAR of the Week Is...
Name: Jeanie Hermansen
Current Gig: Part-time Music Teacher at Old Town and Fern Bluff
Personal Life: I've been married 17 years to my soulmate, Bob, and we have one 13-year old daughter. She is the light of our lives! She loves to play volleyball, read, write poetry, novels, and fan fiction, and also design clothes. She attends St. Louis Catholic School where she has been since Kindergarten. Bob is a marketing and e-commerce director at an Austin-based company. He's originally from Massachusetts, and we love to vacation on Cape Cod every summer. I'm a closet beach bum. At home, all three of us are very involved in the ministries of St. Louis Catholic Church and enjoy spending time with our friends there.
One word to describe yourself and why: Open. I'm always ready for new adventures, places, and experiences. I'm also open about myself, and open to the viewpoints and stories of other people. Most interesting job: Before becoming a music teacher, I worked in the education department of the Austin Children's Museum (now The Thinkery) and did lots of fun things there. Some of the most memorable things were leading very messy gingerbread house workshops every holiday season, leading tours for two-year olds (basically hearding cats), and caring for the lizards and tarantula we had during one exhibit.
Favorite hobbies away from school: I love to lead praise music within the ACTS evangelical community of our church, and I volunteer as one of the Core Team that oversees the retreats put on by this group. I also love to read, go to the movies, occasionally bike, and cook with my daughter.
Favorite song: Now, that's a hard one for a music teacher! For pop music, I'd have to say "Happy". For church music, "Amazing Grace".
- Please remind students to not open doors for visitors/volunteers trying to access the school using the back doors. Students should be encouraged to find the nearest teacher to help the visitor/volunteer get to the office.
- Take your attendance at 9:00am each day. By not consistently taking your attendance on time, our school could face losing significant amounts of money in the event of an audit. September alone could have cost us $14,198.58!!! That would be money taken directly from our teachers and students! :-(
- Celebrate that "above and beyond" positive behavior with the Positive Referral slips located in the Staff Lounge
- If you have not already done so, please bring your Social Dues to Shannon ($20). They are planning some great activities for the staff!
